I know what you mean. I've a slightly squared front courtesy of prev owner. Pilot 5/4s seem quite stiff on the sidewall so I seem to be sittiing on the corner of the square of the front if I try to dig into a bend and there's not enough deformation to take it off the ridge. I think that's why I've felt the front slip.Well I have got my bike back. You don’t always appreciate how tyre wear creeps up imperceptibly on handling. Replacing the back tyre reassuringly restores grip and turn in but a new front has, for me, been far more dramatic.
The old one (Angel ST) was scalloped - it happens - but the increasingly heavy steering, wandering and vibration kind of crept up on me. I changed it when it was becoming apparent the scalloping was worse on the right than the left. It took a brief scratch of the back of the head to realise road camber not wheel alignment was responsible. Camber is quite pronounced on Borders roads to shed copious rainfall.
Well, after carefully scrubbing the new one in and giving it 80-90 miles to warm and flex the carcass ….. just transformative. Accurate, agile and confidence inspiring; lesson learn. Should have done it a thousand miles back.
Fantastic. Love a Lanc.Went to the East Kirkby Aviation Heritage Centre for the Buell and Italian Motorcycle day. They have been restoring a WWII Lancaster there for years, its still not air worthy but they taxi it up and down the runway...
Sorry about the crap sound, my phone couldn't handle it after the third engine started
Nice pic's as usual @Scrappy glad you enjoyed it mate its a good event, they have put a lot of man hours into restoring that old Lanc a tribute to the guys who flew and worked on them. And a couple more...
