Another rider dies RIP Victor Steeman

With Victor Steeman's crash and subsequent head injuries coming so soon after Chrissy Rouse's death I was keeping an eye out for any news hoping to hear that Victor was out of the woods but sadly on Wednesday they announced his death from his injuries. A sad time for motorcycle racing, From the highs to the lows in the blink of an eye and I hope that both he and Chrissy have found peace.

Very sad.

And agree that the biggest danger is being hit by another rider when on track. Unless you land badly or get hit by your bike, modern helmets and kit, especially the inflatable stuff, can do a pretty good job of taking care of you.

Saw a young woman killed by being hit by another bike at Brands a few years in a CRMC event - lots of small, slow bikes in a pile up, the others all got up and continued on their way, she didn't :( Only young too

It's been an awful end of season for accumulated plain bad luck and it seems that the major track hazard is now being struck by a fellow rider.

My Brother was a Pro racer in supersport 600 (a loooong time ago), He broke his back at Snetterton on the slowest part of the track (chicane) ...some back marker outbraked himself,Brother managed to scrub off enough speed but got hit from behind and then run over by his team mate, When he slid past where I was standing it looked like the heels of his boots were almost touching his shoulders and he wasn't moving, spent 30 mins outside the medical centre with his sponsors and watched a medic come out and go to another building then return with what to us at the time looked like a body bag never felt so ill or scared in my life, We were told nothing until the ambulance left for Norwich hospital,as they were all obviously very busy with him.Got told to have a cuppa and wait an hour before following as the ambulance would be going very slowly.
the next 6 months in a moulded fibreglass body cast which was so tight he had trouble breathing....a year later he was back racing even though they told him to never ride a bike again because of some bone fragments loose near the spinal cord.

My god reading these posts makes you think, sometimes as we all know it's rider error or stupidity but more often than not, it's drivers (if on the roads that is). I think we've all had bad smashes I'm no exception, not on the track though.

That's the point though, we all know the risks. Us on the road, some on track, some road racing - nobody was forced into it and its something we love.

Can be cruel, but we all think it's worth it.

Enjoy it - I don't think it will last much longer.
