Not to pressure anyone, each according to their means.
That's the problem though Chas.
If everyone fessed up to what they throw in. Some folk could feel pressured whilst some will feel they could give less.
I only told Sarky as it was the second time he'd asked. In hindsight, I should have PM'd him.

Leaving it as a completely voluntary thing should mean that folk will give either what they can afford or what the forum is worth to them. However, they are also free to not chip in at all.

If we haven't got enough in the kitty by the end of the year. I'll get Judd in a headlock until he spills the beans about how much he needs. The current plan (because he won't tell me how much he needs) is to let everyone chip in that wishes to. Then if we have too much it'll sit there & make 2023 even cheaper. If we don't have enough, I'd like to think Judd would say so. Unfortunately, I think the reality is that he'd make up the difference rather than ask us lot.

My gut feeling is that if the forum continues to steadily grow at the same rate it has been after the initial influx. Then it won't be too long before £5pp will cover the running costs.
Until then I'll happily chip in more for a place to chew the fat with like minded folk.
In a place with no annoying adverts or thin skinned Cockwombles 😃

This is the absolutely KEY point. As far as I know Judd didn't actually want to ask for anything and was willing to cover all costs simply to help out a bunch of old codgers who wanted a new playpen to hang out in as the woke tossers had ruined their old social club. Donations are not, absolutely not, pressurised and are merely a sign of appreciation for the creation and maintenance of our rumpus room. If there isn't enough to cover costs I would hope that Judd would speak up and ask for another whip round (although I suspect he wouldn't do that) and, as far as I'm concerned anyway, if there is a surplus over running costs it's his to do with as he sees fit whether that's towards a holiday for him and the family or even to get some freebies, patches or whatever for the forum in future. Emphasis of course on the fact that, the money we donate (perhaps better to say 'gift') does not mean any of us own any part of the forum and have no right to demand that it bends to our will or must listen to any individual over any other individual.

Hi Gents,

It's that time again. Time to rattle the donation tin for the forum upkeep.

However this year is a bit different. Thanks to your generosity for the past 2yrs. Judd is saying that the costs for 2023 are pretty much covered.
I guess that's fortunate due to the cost of everything else going up.

Consequently you guys have two choices...
1) Take a payment holiday for next year & hope to have more spare cash in 2024.
2) Chip in something but perhaps much less than previous years. Obviously that'll help towards 2024. Just in case the current financial shitstorm is still with us then?

As with every other year, contributions are entirely voluntary.

If you wish to contribute, here's Judds PayPal link...
