I have owned many triples and also V twins, both are preferred over in line fours or V4's, but V2's are a bit 'marmite' so wouldn't ever advise anyone to buy one without getting some serous seat time, I have known a few people that have bought a V2 then simply not been able to get on with it.

I had the Shiver, it wasn't as exciting as the triple.

Feedback on the FB page is very positive, however, this one raises an interest.

I've had six 1290s and some of everything. My advice? Gen 1 for the win! unless you can afford Gen 3.

Gen 2 plagued with CanBus and Keyless ignition issues. Gen 1 is solid and shouldn't give you any problems, accepting you may want to fit a better radiator support but Gen 2 is the same. Some auxiliary spotlights probably. if you really need a cruise control fit a Kaoko.

The sweet spot is the 2016 Gen1 SD-R SE. You can get a nice one for 9k and never regret it! The Gen 1 engine feels nicer on the road, better bottom end grunt, the #2 traded it for 5000rpm more peak revs.

ignore me if you will and get Gen 2 but think of me when you're stuck in a petrol station because the fuel cap won't open or you're stripping the switchgear by the side of the road because it won't power up or you're stuck in limp mode when the exhaust valve throws an MTC failure

Among my group of mates we have all 3 Gen 1290's, I have Gen 1, there are 3 Gen 2's & 1 Gen 3, none have had issues.

My mate that now has a Gen 2 had the Gen 1 first, his comments were that the difference is mainly cosmetic with a few bits of electronics changed & the addition of a quick shifter.

Exhaust servo eliminator cost 20 quid, quick release fuel cap 70 quid, I would worry about that buddy.
At least the gear box doesn't die, high pressure fuel line bursts and oil leakage like it did on my speed triple RS 😂

£5k for a year older on the plate. It looks like a nice bike, probably need to add some extras, but worth a look?
Paid £9K for my 10,000 mile 65 plate Gen 1 from a main dealer, had a few goodies like the full Evo exhaust on already, so money seems about right given when it was registered & the mileage mate.

Totally get ya mate, plus it's the time of year as well, I picked mine up in winter for 10.250 the last of the gen 2 on a 69 reg but that was private, I'd of paid alot more for the bike from a dealer.

Season will be over soon enough, I will keep mine till then and replace all the addons and strip her down to OEM, then move on.

@BB3Lions just saw this on FB 1290 owners, the can in question was an AR like the one in one of the pictures of bikes you're looking at

So many of you will have seen the post of me selling my bike yesterday. Ive had over 20 people asking for the story, some were shocked others just wanted an argument... im bored of replying so heres what happened and what KTM have said. Facts, not fiction.
2016 Superduke R with 21k miles on it
STAY STANDARD - Do you really need more power?
Stubby cans if fitted to a bike with a CAT and not mapped properly (i mean specifically for that bike) causes two things.. Lack of back pressure and incorrect fuelling. Fact.
an "Akra" map wont work on your stubby can - its not an Akra system!!!!!
These things combine to help destroy the cat internally, turning it into debris and dust. When pushed hard the lack of back pressure from a stubby can then suck the debris from the cat back up into the head... the rest is history. One very broken engine.
KTM no longer sell these engines so if you destroy yours... good luck. I had to import one from Italy. Very hard to find.
I spoke to a few very reliable sources at KTM Loughborough and Coventry, both have seen many bikes go the same way. Take heed!
So ive had the engine fitted and the bikes been 100% sorted and returned to standard. Ive also got a 2018 GT so im going to stick with that, i dont need two, so this ones got to go.
Im really not interested in arguments on how a non-standard stubby can is good for your bike, or how im wrong or lying. What happened...happened. KTM have seen this lots of times.
I hope this helps you guys, you have been warned!

*snip*

I saw his previous comment and was going to post it here when he posted that one. As soon as I saw it, I thought the one I am looking it only has 2.5k, but the warnings are as above. So will leave it.

Ref Gen.1 v Gen.2, for the money, I prefer a 2019/2020 Gen.2 with 5k for an extra £1500, and not worry about anything else, as you say a key tank is cheap enough.

I see your logic there mate, I prefer the look of the Gen 2 and would be inclined to agree with you, Gen 3 is the one I am really not keen on.

Stick it on Gumtree as well, it's free and I've had pretty good results when selling bikes on there.
