I do quite like the initial impression but I just don't like the look of these modern liquid cooled engines. They look messy and should really be hidden under plastic and I much prefer a traditional exhaust can, especially on a traditionally styled bike. Afraid I don't see 'evolution' as particularly necessary on a motorbike.

Like myself, you have all the makings of an Olympic grade miserable old git Marty.
If the apocalypse doesn't get us next February. I predict great things for us as pensioners

No disrespect to the Versys lump but I lost interest when I saw it was a twin.
If you're going to evoke the past do it with more than the tank colour.
Z650s were fours so anthing with that badge should be also

There's absolutely nothing wrong with the engine.

It's wrong for a Z650. It'd be like putting a bonneville badge on a tiger cub.

Exactly what I was gonna put, Chas. t'Z650 was a 4. They kept t'new Z900 as a 4, so why would you not do t'same wit 650?

Probably because they already use that twin in many of their other bikes, it's a cheap to make alternative while jumping on the retro band wagon.
