One that i always find a bit odd is where a chap called Ewen Haldane, who owned a motorcycle shop in Greenock and was a racer back in the day, died by Loch Lomond. Someone memorialised the place of his death (he was a ripe old age and I think he might have died in the saddle rather than crashed) by hanging an old helmet from a tree. There is something a bit unnerving about seeing a full face helmet hanging from a tree by the roadside. It's hung the right way up as whoever did it put a hole through it and hung it like you would a conker.
