Where have the cheap bikes gone?

The plastic tanks are the biggest price killer I think for these bikes. People don't want a bike that looks like it's got some sort of disease no matter how well it performs and, even if a bike is OK when you get it, there's no guarantee it won't develop it in double quick time. They were a smart move if Triumph wanted to ensure that there were few truly desirable used Triumphs on the market but as a legacy of the brand it looks very bad. Personally I think they should have rectified it and, at the very least, produced replacement metal tanks for purchase at a reasonable price.

Yep 955 Sprints (ST's and RS's), and Daytona's don't command high prices at all.
I agree mate, I put it on Gumtree with a speculative £3695 price but haven't any interest so far, will leave it a while before reducing, supposed to be on Face Book Market Place as well but ad still awaiting approval.
Had a look at ebay and there were loads of cheap high mileage or tatty ones for sale between £1200 & £2500, there was one vert low mileage one in what looked like mint condition for £3495, won't bother with an advert on there for now.

The tank on mine is perfect, was drained bar approx 1ltr when stored & there are none of these marks you describe, I always run on the higher octane petrol & it was stored over winter with half a tank without any ill effects.

It may be fine but any prospective buyer who does his research will know that it might develop the leprosy at any time and once that happens the finish on the tank is pretty much screwed. Looking online at 'spares' tanks from breakers they are all crash damaged or bubbled and, as far as I know, trying to repaint that nylon plastic is difficult at best and chances are it will just bubble again at a later date. That's the crux of the problem as a seller trying to attract buyers. I certainly can't think of any other reason for the piss poor prices they command. Last year there were pristine very low miles Daytona's (under 10,000 miles) for two and a half grand tops. I've got to admit that it seriously puts me off all the Triumphs from that period which I think is very sad and a bad deal on Triumph's part as otherwise they are brilliant machines.

I bit the bullet & put the Sprint on e-bay as you get more hits there, if it sells I am torn between borrowing some money & going after a 1290 Superduke as I have always liked them, or just keep to using the cash generated from the Sprint sale to purchase something of similar value, Aprilia Tuono, Speed or Street Triple, I would say 990 Superduke but they still command strong money.

Below is the advert, hopefully it comes up to Marty's standard with no piss the buyer off comments! ;)
