It would certainly have been more entertaining. I have a feeling that I might actually have seen the 'performance'. Was he doing something like the William Tell overture by flicking his index finger(s) against his cheeks while opening and closing his mouth to vary the pitch? It isn't an easy thing to do but won't exactly get you a spot on the stage at the Albert Hall.

Am I missing out on something here? you guy's don't half watch some strange or mediocre TV

Hey I'm going back to when I was a sprog and TV was whatever my folks said was on and there wasn't much else on at the time that 'That's Life' was on the box. Some oddly shaped vegetables and dogs that said 'sausages' were the pinnacle of TV on, I think, Sunday, nights.
I'd have sooner locked myself in my bedroom with a spank mag than have watched what my parents watched, kin black and white minstrels and the like.
