I lived in Winson Green, not the prison, there were two white families in a pretty long road, when I took my German Shepherd for a walk the Asians would get inside their house and grab kids off the street, my dog was very friendly not nasty at all but they certainly didn't like her.

We lost our Mollie last week. She was 13.... She went off her back legs, and was obviously uncomfortable, so made the hard decision, and took her to the vet and let her go to sleep.

Absolutely gutted. Consoling ourselves with knowing it was the right thing to do, but it don't make it any easier.

Man it's tough having them put to sleep, I've had five altogether, broke my heart everytime.

So sorry to hear this, @Big Sandy . We've lost 2 of our dogs in t'last year. One died in his sleep, and I had to get vet to put one to sleep. It doesn't get any easier.

Well, we didn't last long....even though we have Tia bimbling around the house, there's still a spaniel shaped hole in our lives...so went and looked at some puppies yesterday, and yes, put the down payment on one. Another liver and white English Springer Spaniel, with a list of field trial champions in her bloodline.

Yes, it's going to bankrupt me! But, what can you do?

Aye Sorry for your loss @Big Sandy and you've got a sweet looking new wee dog there. I still miss the three we lost two years ago now and I'd be gutted if anything happened to the two wee Chihuahua's we have now. During the summer there something happened to our wee white one and we could easily have lost her. I don't know if I mentioned it on here having been keeping a low profile but what happened was that both the dogs were out in our garden and the youngest, wee white one, came in and jumped up on my shoulder and was looking out the window and shaking like crazy. I took her down off my shoulder and realised my hand was covered in blood. Her side was hanging open from behind her left shoulder down to her chest. Fuck knows what happened to her but my money is on some type of bird of prey trying to pick her up and it's talon slicing her open as I have absolutely no idea what else could have caused it. Anyway fortunately, our vets was still working (it was a Friday at five pm) and so we wrapped her up in a towel and rushed her down to Helensburgh ( an hours drive). The vet was shocked as she'd been expecting maybe a wee gash. So the vet anaesthetised her, checked to see if there was any puncture into the chest cavity (thankfully there wasn't) and then two weeks of anti-biotics and then the stitches out. I'd have been gutted if she'd been taken away and fed to young sea eagles (there's a nesting pair down on the loch) or succumbed to an infection or other complication. You know that not once did she whine, cry or complain from the moment she came in and not even when the vet was peeling her skin from her chest and side to check for punctures when she first examined her without anaesthetic. I really do dread the day when we might lose either of these little creatures. Incredible, sweet little characters.
Here is a photo of the wound after it was stitched up:

You'd think so until you see a Sea Eagle up close. Those bastards are huge. Years ago I was strolling in a remote part of the ICI explosives works in Stevenston, Ayrshire and I came around a bend in the road and here was this sea eagle tearing apart a rabbit.. The feckers are about the size of a Staffie if not a bit bigger and their talons are like big curved razor sharp knives. I'd think twice before tangling with one of them even with a baseball bat in hand.

Me and the missus are really thankful that she survived and seems to have come through it none the worse for the experience but she's never getting out in the garden unsupervised from now on. The Eagles had two chicks in the nest at the time and I guess the bird was only doing what it does naturally but if I'd been out there I'd have had no qualms about killing it you just gotta make sure no-one sees as they are protected.
