From a purely selfish perspective I'd be very happy if that had the knock on effect of raising interest rates on savings to 5%+
I'd happily settle for a guaranteed 5%, rather than continue to deal with the rollercoaster that is the stockmarket.
It's been lurching from one disaster to another for years. Admittedly it always eventually recovers but most of the time the lows outweigh the highs.
I know people that lost in excess of £100,000 due to Russia invading Ukraine. It'll take them years to recoup that loss. However a 5% interest rate would no doubt encourage them to cut their losses in exchange for a lot more peace of mind.

Until the banks go belly up! 🙄

The stock market is IMO manipulated by a bunch of self-serving cocks, who could not give a toss about the carnage they can create and who it affects.

Al Murray got it right I think...

Take a look at annuities now, they’re on the way up - if you want to buy an income

Savers should definitely benefit over the next couple of years wave goodbye to the 0.1% deposit account:)

Stock market manipulation - pump & dump or poop & scoop? 🤔

It's the insider dealing that grips my 💩 and, needless to say, of the most interest to politicians. Their announcements can massively inflate the values of mates' stockholdings - nothing so obvious as actually owning them yourself.......

The money markets are manipulated no less by currency speculators as we have just seen. However, it's all a bit of a fact of life. You can only keep improving detection and prosecution but look at the missing Covid billions......

I long ago decided I wouldn't buy a house. We rent from a housing association. Having known a few people who struggled to build themselves a nest egg to retire on who, one way or another lost it all and found a lifetime of effort to accumulate go up in smoke I decided that I didn't need a pile of gold to rest upon and, as I've no children of my own I don't have to worry about 'leaving a little something'. I live for week to week, month to month and year to year and if I've got spare from my personal income I spend it on motorcycles and toys.

My big pisser just now is that I received a letter today saying that fuckin' OVO are putting up our bill to £204 a month and the bastards are keen to point out that I don't have to/can't do anything about it and they will take care of all the changes in cahoots with the bank. I was with SSE and paying £84 a month and in credit. Then I got a letter from OVO saying that they had taken over SSE and were putting my bill up to £134 a month and then after two months or so, without a word to me that change to £164 and now another forty quid up to £204 Now that is fuckin' robbery!

Have a look at Octopus Energy, they recommend a monthly payment which you can change yourself online month by month, or even skip a month (might just be if your in credit 🤔). They just automatically lowered my monthly payment from £150 to about £70 because of the government hand out, but I put it back up to £120 just to be safe (I hope! 😟), plus I'm already £300 in credit.

I cancelled my gas/electricity direct debit months ago.
Now I look at my account online & manually pay what I owe plus a bit extra to maintain a small credit balance.
I've currently got the £66 from the government in the account. Plus £50 of the £150 council tax reduction.
I'm gonna see how little of my own money I end up paying in between now & next April? Hopefully not much.
I've been "eco friendly" (tight fisted) in terms of LED bulbs etc long before we were all told to start doing such things.
An average summer bill this year was only £70pm.
Consequently, I should easily get through this winter for not much more than the £91.66pm we've all been given.
If so, I'll consider that a right result & raise a glass to our glorious leaders 😃

The privatisation of energy was comprehensively cocked up.

The original intent was for two distinct activities: generation/supply and distribution. The idea was to create a central 'pond' that suppliers would compete to fill at prices most attractive to the 'retail' distributors who would further compete between themselves to ladle out the pond.

The politician's seem to have been bought off to create what we have - an essentially profit driven market place with confusing tariffs focussed purely on stovepipe distribution to customers - and zero strategic oversight or policy to cover the national supply interest.

By the time the initial mess was tidied up it was ripe for French nationalised EDF to buy British Energy and charge us more than their domestic customers!! 🤬

He's started posting some subscriber only videos on YouTube.
Yesterday evening that video wasn't available to non subscribers.
I wonder if not enough people have taken up the subscription idea? Therefore his hit, like & share count is down.
If so, that'll be affecting his income from YouTube .

A lot of these YouTube content creators are creating subscription based services, claiming they are worried about censorship and banning, whilst this may be true I suspect there is also the attempt to generate more income. The obvious problem is who can afford to subscribe to numerous pay to view subscription services, I can't and won't.
I would have thought a far better model would be to have a shared "free speech" streaming platform, so people only pay a modest single subscription, and the profits are shared amongst the contributors. I imagine such a service would rapidly grow and attract a decent amount of income both from subscribers and advertisers, and be a challenge for YouTube. But I suspect egos and greed prevent such an idea becoming reality, and also the "authorities" would probably try to obstruct and stifle it too as you can't have people telling the truth and challenging the lefty globalist narrative.

There is a plot to get Sunak in as PM and supported by Mordaunt, both pro EU globalist puppets along with Mr CHunt. IMO this is a direct attack on democracy, and we are fucked if it succeeds... almost as fucked as we'll be if we have a Labour government.

🤬😡
