So what frivolous things have you bought lately? Why?

Forkin SGS. Won't deliver to me.... I wanted a new 4t jack, theirs was a comparable price, but it was a third dearer when they added shipping. And then up pops a note saying they don't deliver to my postcode.

So bought a Sealey one, same price more or less, and free shipping.

I don't suppose a 4t jack is frivolous though... Is it? What if I tell you its bright orange?
You bought a *new* jack rather than fixing the old one or getting a secondhand serviceable item?

Frivolous mate.

Happy now? :D

Gotta change the stupid design (more fragile than a shaved dragonfly wing) bonnet release mechanism on Mrs DD's car.
These should aid access without busting the grille or scratching the paintwork. At £2.48 they'll be considered sacrificial tools for a one off job. If they survive (not holding my breath) they'll be handy for their intended purposes of removing internal trim panels 🙂

Made my day! I now class myself as a unit of frivolity.

No near 2nd hand ones about, and surprising that a lot of them weren't much cheaper than new.... Needed a 4t one, cos my 2t ones wouldn't lift what I was trying to lift. Feel safe when the jack is coupled with 6t axle stands. Well... Safer.

Does anyone know if that style of suspension file is particular to that style of cabinet? Or are they the same as they are in a regular filing cabinet? Other than the identification labels being on the short edge.
I don't need them, but don't wanna bin them if they have any kinda value to someone?
I plan to cut some timber to sit on top of the black metal supports to create shelves.
Unlike the cabinet I picked up on Friday. This was outrageously expensive at £10 😳 😉

Last time I saw one of those in use was when I worked at Kent County Council Treasury department circa 1982 and they were outdated and annoying things then :D
You will probably find the dividers are suspended on metal strips with hooks at each end and may well fit into one of your old metal filing cabinet drawers (running front to back) hooked at the sides(y)
Will add authenticity to your 1970’s themed man cave:D

Nope!
Regular foolscap shown in green, the ones I've just acquired shown in orange...

I guess that either makes them worthless or rare & desirable? 🤔
Do you know what that filing format is called Nick?

Yep A4 v Foolscap - see if they fit any of your more modern filing cabinets :D :D:D

A4 is 29.7cm on the long edge, so if the folder is about that width (excluding the hook part) they will fit A4 cabinets

I seem to remember having dozens of the things in a past job, that didn’t fit anything, some oaf ordered the wrong size

Value? Fuck all unless you find someone who needs them :D

On the plus side you’ve got plenty of storage space to keep them(y):D

They won't mate.
I grabbed that green foolscap off my small pile of spares. For the only drawer in one cabinet that I actually use for the filing of paper utility bills.

Hmm it’s actually foolscap size which stopped being standard size mid to late 70’s!! Except in the USA where it’s still standard use…
I’m guessing your green files are Legal size?

SizeWidth x Height (mm)Width x Height (in)
A4210 x 297 mm8.3 x 11.7 in
Letter216 x 279 mm8.5 x 11.0 in
Legal216 x 356 mm8.5 x 14.0 in
Foolscap203 x 330 mm8.0 x 13.0 in

I make them roughly 270mm x 330mm not 203mm x 330mm.

They’re always deeper otherwise the paper would stick out the top and get damaged, if you put a lot of papers in each ‘file’ the usable height shrinks as it expands

Don’t ask me why I know this  :ninja:
Ah yeah, got ya Nick!
Presumably there's a square that forms in the bottom as you fill it up. Therefore reducing the height.
I've found them on the web at £39 for 25. They are described as being "lateral"
I have 75, so I might chance my arm at £25 ono for the lot? They are like new & that's nearly £100 off the brand new & undoubtedly less well made version.
I was gonna bin them, so £1 for the lot would still equal 10% off the cabinet 🙂

Go for it mate - someone is bound to buy them (y)

I stopped keeping paper several years ago having filled one of those huge storage containers with bills and bank statements and then spent a week shredding them:rolleyes: digital for me now much less mess:D
