So what frivolous things have you bought lately? Why?

Chainmail. Patience. Kudos.
Strange thing that happened when we had an 80s party and I rocked up as 980s rather than 1980s... One guy who was rather the worse for alcohol told me that "It might stop a sword but it won't stop a punch!"
Me: "Are you sure about that?"
Him: "I know it"
Me: "Lay one right there as hard as you like!"
He wound up the punch, hit me as hard as he could. I felt a bit of a nudge and rocked back slightly. He was running around shaking his hand.
I saw him the following morning as he was heading to A and E. One of his knuckles was sunken in and his hand was blown up to twice it's normal size! :)
That mailshirt weighs a good 15-20kg, and the weight of the links below pull it tight so it really is effective. When I first made it, I had my son hit me with a hockey stick a few times to see how effective it was, and could barely feel it! The weight distribution is great, but if you wear it for a whole evening your legs let you know about it the following day - it's a good workout!

Dont usually have problems spending my hard earned, so after burning a hole in my pocket I bought one of these, been wanting to try 3d printing for a while but thought i would have problems getting my head around it but its proved to be a lot easier than i thought thanks to the software, so far i have just been printing downloaded designs which i can tweak the scale etc, but really want to design my own stuff but CAD is a whole different ball game!

Could be handy for money making purposes, hard to find plastic parts...headlamp adjusters etc.

Could print me a glock ...😏

I have a Creality 3D printer in the shed that belonged to my daughter in law's ex who didn't want it any more. I haven't so much as plugged it in yet as I have to many 'projects' that I just haven't gotten around to yet. From what I understand the original owner printed out a couple of downloaded test things and that was as far as he got I had idea's of designing and printing things for adding to model aircraft builds but to be honest most kits nowadays are so detailed that they don't really need anything added and apparently the squirty plastic type 3D printers aren't good enough for that sort of work anyway and it's a resin printer that's needed.

I have a shed full of Tools (toys really) that I thought would come in really handy but have never gotten round to really putting to good use.

I bought something silly the other day - one of the lads from our veterans breakfast club suggested we all went out for lunch on St George's day. Then he asked me if I was rocking up in fancy dress because he had a Knights Templar surcoat... But on the day he couldn't find it so I had to make do with plain old chainmail and an arming sword. Anyway, I found a historical reproduction company in Germany that makes clothing as close to the originals as possible - rather than go with the Templar one given my Maltese connections I went for the Knights Hospitaller (So black with a white Maltese cross). Currently out in Malta, but when I have cause to wear it, photos will be forthcoming!

I've been invaded by tiny months.
Maybe they've escaped from my wallet? (I figured I'd say it before you b@stards did πŸ˜‰)

I set up my electronic bug zapper. It's the kinda thing you see on the wall in a chippy. It wasn't cheap & It's normally awesome.
But these little critters fly around it & aren't interested in it at all! πŸ™„

So.......
If the bugs won't come to the zapper. The zapper has to come to the bugs πŸ™‚

It's feckin brilliant! πŸ˜ƒ
It's next to my chair & the alleged 3000v are switched off, until one comes within arms reach. Then I quickly flick it on & get swatting. There's a bright blue flash accompanied by a satisfying crackling sound & the whiff of toasted bug 😎

It can also be used freestanding & plugged into a 5v USB charger. But where's the fun in that? πŸ€—

We've got one similar to that. How satisfying is that sound when you fry one?

Best use for these I've seen so far...
