High tackle is now above the shoulders as opposed to neck or head in the good old daysDown a player & a CESM ref!
If England can pull off a win? It'll definitely be very well deserved.
But I'm not counting my chickens just yet Nick.
On another subject...
Has the "high tackle" rule been coming into play lower & lower down the body since we played regularly?
I recall a "high tackle" being grabbing a fast moving opponent around the head. Now it seems to be anywhere above the sternum!![]()
Sorry your right, I meant to say he’s OK for a Frenchman (which isn’t saying a lot)How can he be ok? He's French.
As a schoolboy player I/we got away with a "flat hand tackle" to the face.High tackle is now above the shoulders as opposed to neck or head in the good old days
Problem with some of these guys is where do shoulders start
Also head contact automatic redsame for spear tackles and dumping people on their heads
HandoffAs a schoolboy player I/we got away with a "flat hand tackle" to the face.
i.e. a flat hand unless you thought you were in the Refs blindspot?
Then the hand was momentarily closed into a fist before being quickly opened again
I appreciate that the old rules were dangerous/brutal. But back then it really was a mans game. Almost a scrap with a few rules?
After I left school & played club rugby for a while. We still shared a beer or 10 with the guy that used such a dirty tackle against us & got away with it. With the mindset that "your card is marked" the next time we meet/play
Edit...
A better description of "flat hand" would be pushing a player away who was attempting to tackle you.
Yep!Handoff
Also a good opportunity to poke the tackler in the eye![]()
Handoffs are still legal mateYep!
But I can see why it was outlawed Nick.
As you'll know, there were far more serious injuries back then mate.
It's still 50 times more rough than "Puffball" though.
But it's definitely safer for the players now![]()
The only bones I've broken are ribs.Broken toes, fingers, and ribs don’t count![]()
That’s it mate, hurts like fuck but no hospital required to interrupt the drinkingThe only bones I've broken are ribs.
Three of them after a misjudged/misguided tackle.
I landed on the guys studs, chest first
Painful, but not life threatening![]()
