What have you done to anything but your bike today?

It’s chucking it down with rain, so I can’t do anything to the bike or the garden so as idle hands do the devils work, I thought I’d strip and clean and rebuild my equatorial mount for the telescope ready for the Autumn and Winter observing season:p

And as this has nothing to do with bikes I thought it could do with its own thread(y)

Stripped down mount, cleaned and ready for regreasing and reassembly - this is a fine example of Chinese estimation engineering:rolleyes:

All these bits allow the mount to move in declination and right ascension (up and down and side to side) in line with the earths axis of rotation and need to have a very smooth movement to track celestial objects accurately

which has shown up a rather dodgy race bearing that’s rough as fuck

So new proper bearing ordered and should be here Wednesday for refit - bit annoying I wanted to finish it today….

Interesting scope are you watching out for my fleet arriving from the red planet? 😁 At first glance and only seeing the upper part of the first picture I thought I was looking at a fancy food processor but, instead it's some good, non-culinary engineering. I wouldn't mind a good telescope myself but it would be little use here given that clear night skies are a blue moon experience in Argyll of late.

That looks like a well made bit of kit (in the first photo)
If all it'll take to bring it up to speed is a decent bearing. I'd say you're onto a winner Nick 😃

Great idea for a thread as well. I'm often tinkering with stuff but don't feel that I should post about it in bike related threads.

Never stopped BB3Lions from telling us about small things he’s been tinkering with 🤨

Not seen any of your mates yet Marty, but satellites or the ISS moving through the field of view can be a bit surprising:D

And definitely no food processors:oops:

Had a family duty call in Chatham for my nephews spawn's first birthday so took the chance to get my old Washburn (MiJ) acoustic guitar back that I'd lent him. I bought it new in 1981 so it's now a 'vintage' jap built guitar.
I'm looking forward to taking the layers of dust off it and reaquainting.

Well I don't know if this counts but today (and for an hour or so most days) I have been brushing up on my mathematics. I guess I am a masochist but I have decided that my mathematics is decidedly rusty and needs polished and souped up somewhat. I guess that what I am really doing is giving the old grey cells a very much needed overhaul.

I got a big telescope 😉😳
Honestly I really have..Have a great curiosity in the stars...The only problem is when I bought it brand new and all boxed up I didn't put it together straight the way and one day I came home and the ex missus Duck had put it all together and had a play with it so it was never set up right and to be fair I could see better with the naked eye than with that...trying to follow anything with it was a waste of time..
In pieces now under the cupboard. Often wonder if I could do something with it to get it working properly and maybe fit stronger lenses...

Sorry to hear it’s in bits Duck, I’ll guarantee with your tinkering skills you’ll get it up and running in no time(y)

probably won’t need the angle grinder though:unsure:

Or the welding kit:oops:

What type of scope have you got?
