I don't profess to know the exact ins & out of why western forces decided to pull out (maybe @Sarky B’stard can explain?)
But it seems that all those that died or were seriously injured did so in vain.
Someone on here said that the west should stop trying to Police the world.
I agree, especially if they aren't gonna see it thru.

Ain't it funny that, despite being shat on over and over again the moslem's still believe that 'Allah' is looking out for them. Strikes me that he feckin' hates 'em given the way they are constantly in the shit and even when the 'Christians' try to give them a leg back up they go back and ask Allah to shit on them some more.

For my money it goes back to Blair and Bush who got this ball rolling. You can take it apart as a complete lack of strategy but that let’s too many off the hook. For years politicians have been re-cycling public money into their own pockets via foreign ‘investment’. It’s not peculiar to any party or government nor even particularly modern. Defence Contractors….. and the Swamp…..

As far as Afghanistan is concerned, the vague aim has never been matched by three essential ingredients: time, people, money. Politicians want instant results before the next election and they have limited attention spans. They don’t like inherited problems. They want to be popular and spend on things that win votes. Defence isn’t normally a vote winner unless you get a good, quick result. They all want to be Thatcher.

Afghanistan is a shithole. It’s sole value is geo-strategic and arguably much less so in the age of flight. You can take it but why would you keep it? That is the strategic error to me. We should have engaged in heavy raids and left once al Queda had been cleared out of Tora Bora caves with a promise to return if we deemed it necessary; time, place, manner & scale to be of our choosing. It’s not unreasonable of Afghans to resist invaders and if we weren’t going to effectively colonise the place and build schools and hospitals simply ‘being there’ never made sense.

Trump recognised this reality and planned a staged withdrawal. Entirely sensible…… however, having been so critical, Sleepy Joe expedited the total withdrawal and withdrew air cover. The Afghan Army was always a chocolate tea pot that couldn’t resist heat alone. It needed a small Western backbone while it, and the country, slowly progressed simply to maintain confidence. Biden telegraphed (Obama style!) his future intentions to withdraw with a rushed pull out; just lunacy.

You now see the inevitable consequences. Mind you, vaccine mandates for the military and accommodating sexual deviants in uniform seem to be Biden’s immediate priorities. Afghanistan? Oh blame the Orange Man.
