So what frivolous things have you bought lately? Why?

Cardo Pack Talk Bold intercom, It's an early xmas present to us both. Our Sena units have been brilliant, but basic. We now have better sound, with voice activated radio, mp3 and volume.
How effective is it to groove on the move? I am toying with the idea of something similar but the sound quality required for phone and intercom isn’t in the same league as avoiding the tinniness of a cheap tranny. Calm down Duck!

Great sound quality and much clearer than the old set up. JBL speakers as standard. Radio can lose contact during the ride, but looking at external source for tunes, (MP3?) The output can be adjusted to give extra base if you want some heavy rock. I've not had music on the bike before and found it a bit "busy" initially. Chatting to my pillion, radio playing and Tom Tom chipping in with directions!

Thanks Matey! Definitely food for thought. The great joy of the bike is escaping ‘someone’ chipping in with directions. Maybe it might be a retrograde step? 🤔.

Short term Santa is due to throw heated grips down the chimney. Could have used them a couple of days ago returning from Edinburgh. Dashed inside for a pee and nearly screamed 😂

You could have used 'wetsuit protocol' three miles from home and been more relaxed 😁

I'm going to have another attempt at being a rock god, but I may not have thought it through properly, as apparently it takes about a year to really make decent progress, but I only have two months until the apocalypse so I'm going to need to spend every waking second practicing 😜

@MartytheMartian I'm blaming you for both the apocalypse and seeding the idea of playing a musical (not that I'll be musical for some time) instrument again. I didn't get the trumpet, the guy selling it never got back to me. However it got me thinking and re-evaluating the choice of instrument, and I've always wanted to play guitar, I tried once before although not very seriously and I didn't appreciate just how much time and effort was required, but this time I'm ready for the challenge ;).

Epiphone have been part of Gibson since 1957. Not sure but I think that even a lot of the Gibson branded guitars are actually made under contract in Japan and other Far Eastern areas just like the Fender and Gretsch brands. With Gretsch it's only their super expensive 'Custom Shop' guitars that are made in the US. To be honest you will find little real difference in quality between an Epiphone and a Gibson.

Teaching yourself guitar in a couple of months definitely ain't an easy challenge although, as a long-time guitar player I have to say that being really good on guitar is much easier than being even average on the Trumpet! Being able to play Fiddle, Guitar, Banjo, Bagpipes, Flute, Clarinet, a little Piano, Melodion and Saxophone I have to say that the trumpet has to be the hardest instrument I have ever learned to play and I am nowhere near Satchmo territory on it.

Blowing my own trumpet, I was a good trumpet player as a kid, which was part of the reason I packed it in because I was always being pushed to play more and more technical stuff, when all I wanted to do was play popular stuff. I know I'd never be as good again, which would be frustrating, so my trumpet playing is best left in history... bring on the guitar ;)

The two month thing was humour, I'll be happy if I can murder a few rock tracks in 12 months time :)

Nah that fellow looks too young and energetic to be me. I started as a piper with a local band as a sprog then decided to be a Metal/Punk/Psychobilly/Rock god but it never really worked out due to a shortage of musicians with the same tastes. In my early thirties I decided to pick up a few other instruments just to amuse myself and found basically that as soon as I figured out where all the notes were hiding on the strings or keys I could play just about any instrument I could lay my hands on pretty quickly. Of course the challenge with the trumpet is that it's your lips and lungs that do most of the work and the fingers are fairly redundant meaning it's a whole nother kettle of fish. Interestingly a fellow I bought a trumpet off of is eighty and has finally decided to stop gigging!
