I used to be one half of a fairly successful rock disco. It was my mates kit & my music.
He's 11yrs older than me & mega stuck in his ways regarding the music he likes.
Not just that either, he used to be utterly convinced about what tracks were acceptable at a bike rally.

I'm not a Mod (I'm far too scruffy) but I like the music they like.
I'm also not black but I love black music, especially reggae & SKA.

I've lost count of the conversations between myself & Pete that went like this...

"You can't play that. You'll get us lynched!"

"I bet you a pint that they'll love it"

(4 minutes later)

"Whilst you're at the bar, please get me a packet of cheese & onion as well Pete"

With you on that!

When asked what I like, I often reply 'Anything that's good'.

Music collection has a bit of most genres.

My music tastes cover all spectrums from classical to heavy rock, I like blues and some jazz if it's Trad jazz as with classical I can't for the life of me take to playing up and down the scales making a fooking row, I also if I am in the mood take on board some shit kicking country music in fact anything but rap[crap], if it's rock then the volume has to be on 11 and away we go and then there are days when a nice piece of Mozart or Beethoven gives me much joy "Then" volume up again and some 1812 from Tchailkovsky and some Elgar Land of Hope and Glory I even like some serious Organ music by Bach and Widor.....music is my relaxing or releasing tension go to medicine

Last night I thought about posting that the great grandfather of reggae & dub had sadly passed away 😔
But then I spotted that The Guardian newspaper thought that it was front page news for them. Obviously to further their woke agenda 🙄

As if the majority of their readers had honestly ever heard of the guy in question FFS! 😏

R.I.P Lee "Scratch" Perry
You were the dude that allegedly gifted reggae to Bob Marley. And you live on in the hearts of real reggae fans 😃

Fun Fact - An artist on Sam Phillips Sun label in the fifties called Rosco Gordon played piano in a style which he called 'Rosco Rhythm' where the emphasis was on the off-beat. He toured the West Indies and South Africa a lot and is credited with having a major influence on the birth of Ska and Reggae

Some might recognise this song, covered by Etta James, Elvis and The Beatles although Gordon was screwed out of the copyright so didn't get a cent for it. The fellow had a history of being shafted on royalties.

Fun fact number 2 (if it's true?)
Many years ago, I was talking to a guy about music. He told me he was in the USA collecting vinyl records in the 70's. He purchased so many from one record store, that he asked them to ship them to him in the UK as they'd have cost him a fortune in excess baggage.
They did as requested & a couple of weeks later a large box of records arrived.

The record store had used several bits of recycled packaging inc some old record matrices (that's a mould to you & I)
One of the moulds was for "That's alright Mama".
Which I believe was Elvis's first pressing with Sun records.

The guy allegedly sold the mould for the price of a good quality house 🙂

A guy called Arthur Crudup originally wrote/performed the song in the mid 40's. But with a name like Crudup, I reckon Elvis was the man to bring the song to the masses 🙂
