Kinda kicking off from @Old Nick 's Buffalo Springfield I mentally had a swipe through the mental back catologue of that era then tangented. I was going to segue to the Dylan (original, for the uneducated in The Great Man's Work) version but I bloody love this cover

So, if you want to follow this lead, covers that are equal to or eclipse the original........

Look at the feckin state of those female fans! 🥴
I always thought that being a rock star would = a shag fest.
Just goes to prove that you've gotta be careful what you wish for! 😳

I'd want @MartytheMartian & 11 more of his equally large neanderthal mates. To escort me to my limo after every gig 🧐

Beating them off with a shitty stick takes on an entirely new meaning. I reckon the shitty stick would file a formal complaint 😳

A couple spring to mind albeit not quite as cerebral as Dylan, Gloria Jones original was massive on the Northern Soul scene but the Soft Cell version is such a reference point for me it eclipses the original:

I love both versions, Me and the kids got into David Simons' (Baltimore life on the streets, The Wire, Treme) Generation Kill series that featured the Soft Cell version on the soundtrack. The rule now is whenever you hear it, you *have* to do the handclap.

My absence from this conversation for 5 mins is cos I was Googling that very subject.
As Chas said, it's boll#cks (not the contents of) & has been attributed to dozens of celebs over the years.
Inc Britney Spears. One guy was saying that was definitely true & she had his dick hooked up to a milking machine 🤣

The original is by Deep Purple, and I like that. But I absolutely love this cover by Richie Sambora. I thought he was just the "pretty boy guitarist" wi Bon Jovi, but when I heard this, I started listening to his other stuff, and he went up massively in my estimation.
