What’s made you happy for a change

Part of the problem is that the whole issue of whether electric is the future or not is so complex that, without a massive investigation by proper scientists who aren't affiliated to either the Eco mob or the car manufacturers the public will never get the whole picture which allows those with an axe to grind to spout all manner of bullshit and no-one can prove they aren't talking out of their ass.

I find it really weird that, in the last twenty years we have moved as a nation to a model where, largely the 'wise' who can afford it change their car for a new one in just three years and often the vehicles rapidly become 'beyond economic repair' shortly after that. If you told people in 1950 that cars in the 2020's were beyond repair and fit for the scrapheap in just three years they would hardly consider that to be progress. Cold hard logic says that, whether electric, petrol or diesel, a lifespan of little over three years is utterly ridiculous given the energy costs in manufacturing a motor vehicle not to mention the energy required in the disposal and recycling of the same vehicle.

It not just the longevity of cars, they have also become far too complex, with many non-serviceable throwaway components. Going back to the 70s and before, nearly every component could be fixed. Now many components or assemblies are sealed or too technical to service, which need an entire replacement in the event of a fault, therefore increasing the manufacturing requirement of spares or rapidly decreasing the lifespan of a vehicle because it is not cost effective to fix.

EVs will will be even worse, take this for exapmle...

Although my initial thought was 'don't get involved!', I am happy that last night my wife told me her 17 yo niece is getting a bike and had I any advice for her.

She's a good girl and riding a bike will do her a lot of good, and it's another addition to the biker family :)

Her dad rode bikes and knows the guy that runs the shop where she'll get her first bike - something made in China I've never heard of.

Offered her her 'Christmas money' early so she can buy kit and offered some advice on that.

She'll get something at Christmas too, but she don't need to know that - possibly a copy of Roadcraft!

Went to the dentist today, for the first time since the start of Covid as my check up then was cancelled, so its nearly 3 years since I had been. Had xrays done and I've got away with just one filling needs replacing, which I knew about anyway. So as I hate going to the dentist, then after that length of time I'll call that a result 😄

Good news @Doc Strange another years grace, I see BMW are recalling the newer type for issues to the drive shaft?

I'm OK - my bikes earlier. I checked this with me man last week.

Although a final generation oil-head might be what I get next so knowing to check it's been done is good.

I remember my R100RS going in for a service and coming out with a new front wheel. The spiel from BMW was all quality assurance but it transpired someone had totalled a rim bouncing up a kerb and they feared litigation.
Manufacturers can be cute about how they portray problems that made it into production.

10/10 for the Greek authorities 🙂...

Well done to the Greeks, but I could only bear watching 58 seconds worth, typical BBC . According to them the Greek authorities are acting illegally, forcing back ILLEGAL immigrants, and being aggressive stopping potential rioters rapists and murderers from entering their country. And they are coming from an already safe country Turkey, where they are supposed to seek asylum in the FIRST safe country they enter.

Fucking BBC!! :mad::mad:🤬

This is a view on immigration to Denmark from a very left leaning perspective. But it's definitely worth watching if you read between the lines. Regardless of your political leanings, you should like it...

Why is it that the liberal lefties always want the majority to sacrifice their own culture, but yet respect the imported culture of a minority that is in direct conflict to the native culture. The Danes are being smart and just trying to protect themselves, you only have to look at Sweden to see what happens when you don't protect your native culture and values.

I think you would need to be fairly naive to imagine there are not multiple minds behind the march of militant Islam into Europe. You would need to be even more naïve not to expect blowback at some point.

I see it as something of a cultural race between numbers and religious convictions on one side and their steady erosion by exposure to a far more enticing lifestyle. It explains much of the confused rage. How can people like this have ever overr our homelands? Then again, it explains the organised reinforcement by single young men crossing the Channel. It's likely as much Middle Eastern money as ethnic villains in Antwerp etc.

All of which points to the growing role of subversion in future conflicts.... but that merely prepares the ground. Ultimately it comes down to muscle and know how and, dare I say it, political leadership. Too often they lag rather than lead opinion.
