You know I was recently at the Kelvingrove Museum and Gallery and I was standing looking at the painting 'The Last of the Clan' which depicts Scots being forced to leave for the America's due to the Highland Clearances and a woman says 'You have to sympathise with the immigrants coming here don't you? After all we were once forced to emigrate too'. I casually replied in my best highland accent 'Well my family wasn't forced to emigrate and chose to stick it out or I wouldn't be here now and those that left were leaving for wide open spaces full of opportunities not coming to an overpopulated land with a cost of living crisis and massive shortages of housing for it's own people and who want to live off all that we have. The people who went to America had no expectation of claiming benefits or being given a free house. Huge difference. She didn't have a thing to say in response.

Eloquently put. It was about greed and economics. Sheep were more profitable than tenant crofters subsistence farming and making barely enough to pay increased rents. For all the SNP nonsense, it was overwhelmingly done to Scots by Scots. My own forebears had been mainlanders from around Donnie displaced to the Uists many of whom then left for Canada and New Zealand as late as the 1920s. None of them were refugees in any meaningful sense. They all sought to better their lives.

I seem to remember that Robert Burns railed against the Duke of Argyll who was attempting to stop his tenants leaving for the America's and the possibilities of a new life. Surprisingly large number of emigrants actually returned as well finding that life in America and Canada simply wasn't for them and they yearned for their homeland and their own people.

One thing I find odd about the pro-immigration mob is that they condemn how the 'white man' invaded and took over the America's, overrunning them and colonising the land but they have no problem whatsoever with we, the indigenous people of Britain being overrun and colonised by all comers. Very much a double standard. What makes what the people from Eastern Europe, Africa and the Middle East are doing now any different from what Europeans did to the natives of America except of course that, there were far fewer native Americans and much greater resources of empty land.

I can, in fact 58 every day would be fine by me.
Having said that, you're right about our government being responsible for the illegals attempts to get here Gazza.
Consequently, one of the only chances we have of the illegals ever being discouraged from trying, is when they hear of mass drownings.

I remain of the opinion that the boats should be intercepted mid crossing. The occupants should be given the opportunity to turn back. To make a formal application from France or wherever they set off from.
If that opportunity is ignored the boats should be sunk. I don't care who is aboard.

Unfortunately, human nature being what it is, there is a certain type of person who will still try and get into the country even if we covered the coasts in barbed wire and guard towers with machine gun emplacements. Hundreds of deaths every day wouldn't dissuade them as long as there was a chance one would get through. The only way to actually deal with the problem is to make it clear that there is not the slightest chance that a single person breaking into our country will be allowed to stay.

I do think there is something else going on that isn't being really made public although the clues are there..... There was a bit of talk in quiet corners at the start of Putin's assault on Ukraine that one of the real reasons or even the main reason was to literally steal the Ukrainian children and youth as Russia is suffering from a real shortage of young 'breeding stock' and labour. It was recently stated that China, for the first time since records began has seen a decrease in population. In addition fertility rates in men across the globe, including Africa and the Indian subcontinent have been going into freefall not to mention a lot of men seeming to want to become women or stick their cocks in other men and further depleting viable breeding stock. My money is on Oestrogen in the water systems globally but, whatever the reason I think that governments are basically wanting to acquire as much stock, for labour and breeding, while they can. The joke is that all those Africans and Asians coming here may eventually find themselves or their children to have been sold into a modern slavery.

No-one seems to be really question why there is a concerted effort amongst government etc. to turn a blind eye to the flood of illegal immigrants and, no matter what you call them, illegal immigrants is exactly what they are.

It'll never stop, and a few drowning won't stop it either. There is nothing anyone can do, elections won't change anything because majority of people vote for the same old shit. We have to face it this country is finished so I'm going to enjoy what time I've left not watch any news and keep away from social media, this is the only place I find out what's going on and rarely watch any videos that are posted because I know they will piss me off.

I think most of us in the older generations have come to the conclusion that, other than reading the news and cursing the stupidity that has overrun the world there is nothing we can do about it and we all just hope that it will leave us alone for the time we have left and I for one have reached the conclusion that the younger generations who are embracing the 'diversity' really deserve all they get. As @Don the Don says feck 'em all bar one and bollocks to him!

Well having been made redundant in early December, and getting the state pension at the beginning of January I have been thoroughly fed up doing housework and cooking the evening meals, So today I just stuck my head in the door of a powder coating company ( who I new was struggling with labour)and asked the owner if he needed an old duffer to clean and prep the stuff prior to coating....he wants me in on Monday to talk hours and money ... there's life in the old dog yet 😁
