I always thought myself quite libertarian, but right now no way, any cunt killing my kith or kin should burn, slowly
Really sorry to hear about your cousins daughter Nick 😔
We all read such shocking stories in the news. But we never think it'll happen to us or anyone we know.
Hopefully the piece of shit that killed her will suffer for his crime!

Sorry to burst your bubbles but he won't suffer he'll be kept in 1 of HMP'S 5 star hotels where the uniformed staff have to cow down to the scum bags, because thats how the management insist they are run. Most to be released on parole half way through the judges recommended tarriff and a LOT WILL REOFFEND

^^^ guaranteed he would be 6ft under once he's out.
My physics teacher had to do jury service at Oxford crown court while I was at school.
A girl had been raped at knife point. the rapist had been convicted yet was out within a year. The victim’s mother and brother found the guy - he pinned the chap down while her mum boiled the kettle. They were on trial for GBH as she’d poured the kettle full down his trousers in a ‘boil in the bag’ moment that ensured it would never work again.
They’d forced it to crown court to make sure it had press coverage.
The judge instructed the jury they had to find them guilty, but with diminished responsibility because the judicial system had let down the girl who was raped.
They each got a year, suspended for two years.

starting next year

It is nothing to do with road safety, it is just about control, in a few more years your "intelligent" vehicle will only work if you are deemed to be a good compliant slave of the state  - although it won't be your vehicle, because "you will own nothing and be happy" and it will be a state owned vehicle that the state allows you to use.

Might increase the value of pre-2022 bikes and cars 🤔...whilst we are still allowed to use them

BBC News - Gurkha veterans on hunger strike outside Downing Street

Can't see their protest working, but I hope it does 🙂

Is the "logic" behind the lower pension based on them living in their native country? And therefore requiring less money to get by? Or is it just our government screwing them over. Whilst spending millions on much less worthy causes?

A mixture of things that have run into one another.

This is about pre 1997 service when the pensions switched over for everyone (yes, a money saver for the Treasury). It ties into common terms of service agreed in 1947 when Gurkha units split between Indian and British Armies, permanent service in the Far East until HK handed back (coincidentally also 1997) and Gurkhas being stationed in the UK. Subsequent to that many more settled in the UK where a pension that made you a king in Nepal went nowhere.

The ’ones in the middle’ would have come back to the UK and been expected to retire to Nepal but chose not to. Life expectancy in the UK for them is vastly better. They and their families can only number a few hundred and we take that many a day in rubber dinghies……Politically it’s a battle not worth fighting and the cost will wither.
