You couldn't make it up - Apparently the University of Northampton are placing a warning on George Orwell's 1984 saying it contains ideas and imagery that students might find disturbing. A book that warns of a society that tells you what to think and has 'thought police' keeping people away from 'unacceptable' material is being 'policed' by people who are dictating what is safe to think.

Apparently it isn't the only book they have put warnings on lest the fragile little student's be scared, upset or offended by the 'challenging' content. I remember that everyone was screaming Big Brother and 1984 donkey's years ago in Thatcher's day and over ID cards and yet now it seems that many are happy to be controlled to an extent which reaches far beyond what set alarm bells ringing back then. I am looking forward to the Apocalypse!

The road in the quaint village near the Devon and Cornwall border had originally been a sunken and tree-lined dark lane, hence its name

I followed the Darky Lane situation online and apparently it emerged that the name was originally 'Dark Lane' and it was called that because the lane was in the permanent shade of some trees. According to what I read the council had a 'consultation' with the locals and all who responded desired to keep the name and, so it is reported, the name stays.

Ah @smib I didn't know there was two. I have to say these arseholes behind all these movements really make me hate humanity. I notice that the guy who started the petition about Blackboy Road states 'having just moved into the area'. That being the case the bastard has absolutely no right to try and change the local landscape that he has invaded. So often it's the bloody 'incomers' who start changing the place to be like the shitholes they came from. The indigenous people of the area should have first say over any changes that might be made.

Apparently the case against the "Devon Darkey Lane" was raised by two visiting darker brethren. Residents have been consulted on a possible name change, if you live in Darkey lane, each resident will be forced to pay £40 to implement the change. Local Facebook opposition makes interesting reading
