Tomorrow it's been a week since he was on here claiming how much he was willing to listen to other folks opinions. If he comes back with anything other than negativity & he hangs around afterwards, I'll be surprised.
He promised to watch the video I posted of Tommy Robinson at the Oxford Union.
Assuming that he did, it'll still be extremely hard to change his mindset. He's a similar age to myself & there's no way I could be converted to a leftie Guardian Newspaper reader way of thinking. So it's probably unrealistic to expect an "old pinko" (his description of himself) to be able to wake up, smell the coffee & change his long held leftie beliefs.
That's fine by me. Let the future unfold before his eyes. Then maybe when his kids & grandkids are reaping what he allowed to be sown. He'll raise a glass to the sense spoken on this forum. But I won't hold my breath. Like all lefties, I'm sure a reason will be found to blame the outcome on the "Far Right"
Good evening gents. Been away for a few days with the parents to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary. Heartily recommend Kingswear for great river views and cosy pubs serving decent ale.
Nice to have the family all together. Especially enjoyed our kid’s home grown crop. Anyway, back on track, I managed to watch the video and I have to say that I was in agreement on many of the things he has to say. Now I’m not going to claim I fancy going for a pint with him any time soon, but he clearly believes in his cause, and is doing something about it. I may not agree with the way it pans out, and I still have remaining doubts about some of his motives.
This last week alone has demonstrated what an absolute shit show we’re living through right now.
It seems to me that the ever deepening polarisation of people and extremism is wrecking any chance of finding a consensus of any genuine advancement for us all.
The Labour Party under Sir Keir are laughable and really offer no alternative or opposition to speak of. Anyone heard from the Liberal party in any meaningful way for weeks, months….
It’s all a pretty sorry state on all fronts.
I’m an idealist I guess, but as a good friend once told me, that only works if everyone else is.
I remember whilst the whole Lance Armstrong scandal was going on, a journalist, David Walsh I think said forget about the tests, trying to catch him jacked on EPO, just follow the money. I think it holds as true now as it did then, as true for politics as it was for sport.
Sorry, that was long, lacking any real conclusion, and ultimately quite dull, but wanted to do as I said I would and report back.
The only definitive fact from this is time spent with those you love beside a river, with great food, plenty of ale and some decent weed takes some beating.
