I take it they are grey squirrels? Here we only have Reds and, if anyone was caught so much as trying to keep 'em away from the bird feeders let alone shoot 'em, they'd probably find themselves run out of the village on a rail as the villagers are very protective of their squiggles.

Ive had a gun in my hand since i was 10 years old Marty , never shot a red in my life and never will , was on a shoot once and some penis took a shot at a Hawk , missed thankfully but it did not end well for him !! These feckin tree rats are grey ,i live on the edge of a major forest and to be honest i dont think i have seen a red for the best part of a decade , the greys have ran em out of town , hope this puts your mind at rest pal

Meant to say that we have Red Squiggles by the ton here in Cowal. Hundreds of the little fellows all over the place and bold as brass. Apparently the Greys can't live well in the managed pine forestry that dominates here as they can't feed on the pine cones where the reds can.

We have both. See more greys than reds. I might be responsible for, ahem, redressing the balance in the past but not since I sold my Remington semi-auto. The greys are also getting trapped under a red protection program. The biggest threat to the greys however is the spreading population of pine martens. Re-introductions in the Borders going well along with Ospreys and Golden Eagles. The reds evolved with martens but the greys didn’t. Their aerial skills and greater size makes them easier prey. Reds doing well just to the South of me around Moffat. The most I’ve ever seen were on some TA ranges on the Isle of Wight. Little charmers everywhere in thick hazel.

I hate feckin Grey Squirrels,If I can get a pellet between the eye and ear down they go quick n clean,Magpies are the same get rid quick as!!!!
All they do is remove songbird eggs and chicks and once they find a nest it is emptied...Don't shoot anything else unless it's paper......well apart from the odd Woodie for the table.
We had a Pine marten on the National Trust site I was working on about 20 yrs ago,We were clearing all the softwood from a mixed woodland and it came down the track to where we were sitting having a cuppa..saw us and shot up a tree,It just curled up at the top and waited till we left,I was surprised how big it was....It must have escaped from somewhere as Suffolk isn't exactly awash with em

I watched a guy skin and cook one on YouTube once....feck they are ugly shitters without a skin on
I've ate squirrel , crow , luv pigeon , you are bang on Half ton , once you have skinned a squirrel the are a dead ringer for a rat ( and no , i havent eaten one of them ) but squirrels dont taste that bad , stringy as feck but not bad , also agree that magpies , rats and greys around here are shot on sight , the farmers insist on it , The amount of Badgers around here is starting to get out of hand as well , i can sit and watch em all day , so funny

My secret wee corner of the world is absolutely 'hoachin' with wildlife. We have a number of Pine Marten families, gawd knows how many badgers, Squirrels, Deer, adders, oh and frogs, toads and newts in amazing numbers. I recall one dark rainy night coming down the road from the Rest and Be Thankful the road was absolutely jumping with either Frogs or Toads (don't know which) for every single foot of the eight or so miles of road.

I have had one encounter with a Badger.. My last Staffie bless her ( a dog in a million) was out with me running with my mountain bike, About 6.30 in the morning and she never usually leaves my side,But this morning she suddenly veered off the track into a rape field I could see the crop moving and shouted for her to get out, As I'm slowing down watching the crop move as she is coming back to me suddenly a feckin Badger burst out of the crop and nearly hit my front wheel ..closely followed by my dog, I shouted Badger.. why I don't know as there was nobody else for miles, luckily the dog stopped when Brock went down along a stream....if it had stopped and attacked my dog it would probably been curtains for her:poop::poop::poop::poop:

I couldn't live in a city or even a town for more than a short while. I spent about three months in Glasgow when I got married and I had to get out because I absolutely hated the place.
I'm out in the Suffolk countryside,I love the seasons and wildlife and can sit with my dog and watch Buzzards soaring on the thermals (seen 5 in one sky once) we have Fallow deer walk down past the house at odd times and early mornings step across the road with a mug o tea and watch a barn owl hunt the whole meadow up and down covering every inch...AWESOME.
