As an Immigrant English I come at the top of the SNP hate list, sad state of affaires when the hate for the English out ways the rest of the known world, they also forget that there are as many jocks south of the border seeking a better way of life than most of Scotland can offer
Back in 1992 I got into an argument in a pub in Felpham, near Bognor Regis on the south coast, about as far from Scotland as you can get while being on mainland UK.

This Scottish student was banging on about how Scotland should be independent, Scotland is this, Scotland is that, Scotland is great, etc.

I do remember mentioning that she was absolutely right - mostly because there was fuck all there worth having apart from the grouse shooting and a couple of half decent distilleries.... and she took a swing at me.

I managed to stop myself retaliating, but it was the closest I have ever come to hitting a woman.

Scotland the land itself is brilliant, a beautiful place with incredible scenery but, as a realist I have to say that we don't have much beside that any more. The Shipyards, the Steelworks, the Railway Works, the farming and fishing and a proud history of engineering, science and innovation have really fallen by the wayside and, under the SNP we can hold ourselves up and be proud of having the worst Drug death rate in Europe and a government who, rather than crack down on it wish to make it easier and more comfortable to shoot up. I find it rather distasteful too that the SNP make a big deal out of the Whisky trade as major revenue in their plot for independence. Let's face it the stuff is a destructive drug in a drink format that few really enjoy simply for it's flavour even if they pretend that is the reason they drink it. There is a reason why, since the invention of Whiskey, the Irish have invented practically fuck all and what they have invented, when you look closely is often by Anglo-Irish people. Whisky isn't even that old as a part of our 'national heritage'. Distillation is said to have been introduced from Europe via England and the particular characteristics are simply due to malted barley being the most handy source of sugar and the water drawn for the mash coming from peaty streams. I have a book of Gaelic writings somewhere from a Minister of the church in the mid 1800's who bemoans the fact that distillation of strong liquors had come to Scotland and turned it's people from intelligent, industrious, pioneering souls to violent useless drunkards.

Oh I would add that I am surprised that in these days of Eco concerns distilling and brewing haven't come under fire given the fact that the fermentation process to make all types of booze generates incredible amounts of CO2. Perhaps the eco mob like their micro brewery ales too much?
Stop! You are giving the game away!! CO2? What about every carbonated drink on the planet? No, fermentation is incredibly green because CO2 actually IS plant food and, whatever Greta says, the Greenhouse Theory is a theory and not settled science.....and Scotland needs greenhouses.
Whisky/whiskey are fine. Blame the alcohol that snuck in. Shoot, gin is just vodka with vegetation to taste. Sugar is an even more addictive drug and fermentation eats it!
The metal bending industry has been much diminished in all of these islands but BREXIT may actually help steel based industries. Freeports etc., could tip the economic balance sufficiently but we would not want to compete with Mumbai ship dismantlers or low quality Chinese steel that rusts away while you watch.
The main thing is getting Government off our backs. We just need to let native ingenuity rip to reap its own rewards and not tax it to death.

At the last count, 44% black and asian in London. Compared with an average of about 7% for the rest of the country. And 2% where I live. This had no bearing on our choice of location when we moved up here to Derbyshire from Bletchley 13%.
It was a massive part in why I moved out this way...
I wanted to live in a bit of England that was still how England used to be...
Political correctness and forced multiculturalism is on the way here though and it's being done exactly the same as it was back in my home city...
I try to point these things out to people but they won't listen until its too late and like so many others before them they are literally fucked because they don't want to have to deal with it....

What about Poles, Czechs, Latvians, Chinese, French, German etc. in London? I would guess that must take the 'foreign' population way above the 50% mark. We have zero percent resident Black and Asian population in my village although we have several percent Latvian and Polish (all working for the company who own the Caravan park/holiday village around the Loch from the village.
The poles czechs Latvians Chinese and such don't cause shit and get on with making a life and a honest living...They don't bitch about being victims and don't believe society owes them fuck all..Good people for the best part...Apart from the French...

I was brought up to believe that no matter what, you never hit a woman!
Then a crazy ex girlfriend tried to attack me with a pair of scissors. I got those out of her hand & she grabbed a beer bottle out of the bin. Broke it against the door frame & came at me with that. I got that out of her hand as well.
And in desperation I slapped her. She instantly snapped out of her rage.

The reason for her crazy rage?......
I'd had a drink in the hotel bar when she told me not to! 😳

Thankfully she's history now. Cos although she was easy on the eye. She was completely unhinged! 🥴

I think most of us were raised with good moral and family values which I believe are a great foundation to give your personal character a good start in life...

Unfortunately life can teach us some harsh lessons and those moral values we hold on to can be tested to the limit...

Not everyone is a good person and will use your good character and sense of honour against you...These people are usually the scum of the earth and come from all walks of life...If one or more of these people try to hurt you or yours then there is no dishonour in protecting yourself or the ones you love regardless of whether the perpetrator is female or someone who as not yet attained adulthood...

The shame is their's not yours...

Ironic that a large proportion of the grain used comes from England, and Baxters soups "Scottish" aye the water is but again a large proportion of the ingredients come from afar

@Tallpaul hope you had a good birthday mate and take SB's advice on pension's
My idea of irony is sitting in a wee yacht in Post Ellen, Islay watching truck after truck from Northumberland and Yorkshire hauliers exiting the ferries and head for Bowmore, Lagavulin, Ardbeg, Laphroaig, Bruichladdich, Bunnahabhain etc., or through to the Jura ferry. I often think the SNP has no idea where so much malting barley originates.....including Europe and Canada! Islay produces improbable volumes of whisky given that water is is about the only plentiful island resource. Yup, some of the best grain is from NE England.

The Irish of course use English barley too but adulterate it with oats and even maize to produce their gut rot.

The Islay cattle enjoy the spent grains.....

I've yet to taste a whiskey from Scotland that don't taste smell or leave an aftertaste that makes me want to puke...The filth I've come across way back in the past as tasted of TCP disinfectant ,really smokey or like I fell over on the moorlands and got a mouth full of boggy dirty peat water... Really unpleasant stuff...
