Try Halfords Professional range Marty.
It still isn't Snap-On quality but it's good. And isn't anywhere near as expensive either.
And they will genuinely honour the lifetime warranty. Which is one of the big selling points for Snap-On.
Just rock up with the broken tool & they'll replace it. Normally, with no questions asked.
Since they started marking all their own brand tools. They don't even insist that you produce the original purchase receipt.
The amount of crap tools I’ve returned to screwfix is enough to make them wince, well only a little bit.

I agree completely @Holy Shit When I was having my new sheds built last year the local joiner was saying that even the Stanley, Marples, Irwin etc. stuff is crap now even though it's still expensive and that is directly comparing it with all his Dad's old Marples, Stanley etc. tools that he still uses and some of them are probably well over fifty years old. I have lost count of the tools I have gone through that are seriously poor.
There seems to be no consistency in brands either. I have looked up things about USPro and Bergen to name but a few and people say that certain tools from them are brilliant quality and others are ridiculously poor. You can only assume that some of their tools are coming from reasonably good quality factories and others from really bad ones.

The swedes and japs are generally ok’ish but most stuff has been farmed out to the chinks.
I try to avoid Chinese goods in general,if possible, components are tricky but my personal policy is to ethically avoid funding the yellow peril. As we say in Somerset, they can fuck right off.

Ah even the Swedes are farming their stuff out now but the prices aren't dropping. I was just reading a forum a wee while ago and a guy was saying he'd bought some new Bahco stuff and it was made in Argentina and crap to boot. It doesn't help when the same company has half a dozen different 'ranges' like Draper, Draper Expert. Britool, Britool Expert, Britool Hallmark and I think that they aren't even really Britool any more but are now part of Facom who also have Facom Expert etc. etc. You find yourself wondering if there is much difference between each range apart from price.

I don't know, or haven't found, any equivalents in hand tools but finding the budget brands that are basically the same as bigger badged stuff as they're made in the same factory is fun. Erbauer is Bosch's budget brand aparra, I've only a chop saw with the name but had it for yonks and hasn't broke or burnt out.
Got DeWalt kit at work but wouldn't spend my own dollar on it. Def a brand that has plummeted.

Erbauer is all Chinese
Noted.
It's not badly made gear though. Colleage bought the Drill/Driver set that mimics the DeWalt we've at work and Makita I've used elsewhere. Essentially identical. I've to replace my drill/driver set soon and I'll likely get an Erbauer as I'm not giving it trade use. I'd consider it if I was using it for trade too.

Agree with you about PeakChink tho.

I know a few folks who are involved in the vintage guitar business in the USA and I remember many tales of the bizarre ways that stuff is shipped around in the states. I seem to recall that one guitar, bought from a Dealer in Nashville Tennessee to be shipped to Texas (about five or six hundred miles if I recall correctly) actually travelled way up to somewhere in the northern states of America the way out West before finally boomeranging back to Dallas and this wasn't because it had gone off course but simply a quirk of how their distribution system works.

On the power tools front I have actually found that Draper 'Storm Force' tools are pretty rugged and good value for home use and, for bench tools Scheppach seem to be fairly good for relatively little money. I love my wee Scheppach variable speed wood lathe. Great fun just to throw a lump of wood onto it and turn something out!

USPS are mildly simmering my pi$$.

In 7 days they've managed to move my parcel from Houston to Chicago! 🙄
Don't rush yourselves lads, in your own time 😏
You have been trucked over!

Their long distance, low cost truck freight isn’t the quickest but it’s cheap. I bought my SBC V8 in bits from a California performance shop and it was free trucking anywhere in CONUS. I was using returning RAF spare capacity flying out of Nevada or Washington so chose Nellie AFB outside Las Vegas. It then came via Andrew’s Washington DC to Brize Norton customs shed thence to Northwood by RAF mate’s Volvo. It took a fortnight to get the 250 miles from California to Vegas and 36 hrs for the rest......

I'm surprised to hear "customs" were involved.
I thought that circumventing them was one of the advantages of bringing stuff into the UK using the RAF.
