The cultural aspect is usually far more significant than creed or colour.

Abroad and here I've met non-white folks who are more British/English than me and love our country.

It really is a cultural and education issue - your typical Pakistani doctor tends to be very 'British', whereas your typical Pakistani garment factory worker is probably more Pakistani.

In fact of the most derogatory comments I have heard about migrants have come from their fellow countrymen!

You should never judge a book by its cover as they say.

I knew a chap in Glasgow many moons ago whose parent's were Indian Sikh's and he claimed to be a member of the National Front. I thought he was winding me up until I met another guy who was an NF member who told me that the fellow was one of their most ardent members. Apparently many NF members were regulars at his parents Indian restaurant.

Apparently the National Theatre of Scotland has banned the word 'Spook' because they believe it can be used in a racist way and apparently elsewhere in the world Picnic and Brown Bag Lunch are terms now on the 'banned list' of the illiterate and profoundly stupid people who seem to be earning lots of money to 'police' language. Jeezus H Christ on a bike but the human race has an awful lot of morons in it. It is only a matter of time before they ban colour terms like black and brown and probably the colours themselves.

Apparently when the Yanks were lynching black people 'spectators' would have food while watching and so, because some people had 'picnics' it is considered offensive to black people to have or refer to picnics from now on.
That's the most ridiculous bit of cancelling I've heard so far Marty! Talk about THE most tenuous of links 😏

What next?
We can't say "jam" because a famous jam manufacturer used to use a golliwog on its jars. And golliwogs were (allegedly) a derogatory depiction of a black person.

The tw@ts that ban words like picnic must lay awake at night. Trying to find hate crimes in the most unlikely & ridiculous places.
There must be a secret league table among the "woke" of who can get the most ludicrous statement taken seriously? 😏

BBC News - Safety line saves fisherman as huge wave hits
Sod that for a way to earn a living, at least the wave would have washed all the shit away, boats you can keep them anything smaller than a aircraft carrier is too small,
I was returning home by ferry once early 80's from Rotterdam in October and the sea was a right storm everyone was sick except for an old Indian guy sitting alone, so between bouts of vomiting I asked him why he was not bothered by the conditions, he said 20 years Royal Navy I shook his hand and said good on you mate now excuse me again while I bring something up.

I have only ever been seasick once and it was on the Waverley, what a feckin' tub that thing is. Been on trawlers, speed boats, a giant South American navy power boat that the guy that owned Troon marina had (he had three of them that I think had been with the Chilean navy or something) and a selection of yachts, Ferries etc. and never even felt queazy but I went on a trip on the Waverly as a youngster and it damn near killed me. It was a wee bit choppy as we left Ayr headed for Arran and the boat bucked and bounced like crazy. Went to go below decks and, when the smell of fried food came up from below so did my breakfast!

On a ferry from Algeria to Spain in 2008. The conditions were so bad there were mini lakes of puke flowing up & down the walkways inside. The doors on every cupboard containing life jackets etc were flying open & closed. Fire extinguishers were coming off their wall brackets. And it was almost impossible to move from your seat.
It was like being on a rollercoaster that was covered in puke.
On the vehicle deck there were cars that had slid into each other.
Fortunately I'm not seasick but the novelty of watching others in their mass suffering still soon wore off.
Apparently the Capt nearly turned the ship around but decided it was no more dangerous to carry on. As the storm hit its peak at roughly the halfway point.
An interesting experience, but a fairly unpleasant one as well 😳

Apart from the SKA revival & a handful of other good tracks.
The same could be said about the 1980's as well Nick.
Especially when the 80's/90's are compared with the two previous decades.
That’s the thing Jez I was into 60’s 70’s 80’s music but 90’s completely passed me by - even Ska was mainly eighties (I think!)

Back end of the 70’s to early eighties brought everything from the Ramones, Clash, to Siouxsie and the Banshees, stone roses, happy Mondays, fun boy three, and loads more

The 90’s though, fuck all!!

Well I have to admit to getting a bit of a taste for Thrash Metal during the 80's and Punk, Psychobilly, Rock, Metal and Rockabilly were all good but the 'mainstream' for the last thirty to forty years has been utter shite. I can't abide (c)Rap, House, Jungle, Grunge, Hip-Hop or the vast majority of what passes itself off as 'punk' and 'metal' these days. Never really liked Metallica apart from their first two or three albums and Slayer and Anthrax were pretty shit. I can't abide too much drums or that synthetic bass that pervades the, forgive me for saying it, 'Ethnic' music that seems to be everywhere these days and some geezer talking, rather than singing, garbage at 100mph whether it's 'poetry' or not just leaves me cold.

I hear the names of bands from the last twenty years and I haven't a clue. Haven't heard a piece of new music in twenty years that made me want to hunt down a copy.

What exactly happened to music in the last few decades? It all just leaves me cold and yet my music collection goes from the middle ages to the mid eighties so I can't be said to have a narrow range of tastes.
I always say that there's no such thing as shite music. Just music I like, & music I don't.
However, I may have just contradicted myself with my previous two posts? 🤫 😗 😉

That's what I was saying mate. Although I could have phrased it better.
Let's try a revised version of what I was trying to say...
The 80's was full of shite music apart from the SKA revival & a handful of other good tracks 🙂
Yep the 80’s had a load of shite, but also a load of great stuff too - the 90’s was just shit whether I liked it or not it was just crap

SKA was a bit ‘meh’ but Siouxsie, the clash, and the Ramones spoke wise words in my head(y)
