Brown Sugar" was a staple of Rolling Stones setlists until 2021, when they dropped the song. Asked why by the LA Times, Keith Richards said, "I don't know. I'm trying to figure out with the sisters quite where the beef is. Didn't they understand this was a song about the horrors of slavery? But they're trying to bury it."

But it's not meant to be a historically accurate text. ;)

Stray cat blues isn't on the set list either these days I'm sure.

I'm always wary of efforts to ossify history because bad stuff happened. It should inform, not be rubbed out.

JFK's lies (to the public) about the level of involvement in Vietnam and the motivation for such action 'you would have thought' made people less supportive of subsequent overseas excursions. Where we've (the west) been generally been caught out by implanting someone who we thought was going to be pissing outside the tent turning round ocassionally. That we invaded Iraq because of a 'despot' and let pox ridden Mugabe a free rein defies objective logic. For just one example.

With the desire to remove anything about slavery is this just a white man problem? or will it include songs like Bob Marleys Buffalo Soldiers and for black producers like that steve Mcqueen to stop making films that portray slavery or are they excluded as it shows them as the underdogs they want us to be upset about

You know I didn't know the words to Brown Sugar until I read that article and had to look it up. I have heard the song countless times but never actually really heard the words apart from 'Brown Sugar how come you taste so good'. Always thought it was about heroin. By pinpointing the song I wouldn't be surprised if they haven't added it to a lot of Hillbilly Hitler fans play lists. Good song though so screw it I'll still listen to it.

I would bet money that all this crap is being stirred up by a few wee bespectacled 'online activists' and the majority just roll their eyes say 'WTF is the world coming to with all this shit' and get on with their lives. As 'the legionnaire' in the Sven Hassel books used to say 'Come sweet death'. The Chinese, Russian, North Vietnamese war machine will not care what 'Brown Sugar' is about and the Ethinc minorities and LGBTQ++ community will be happy to know that they won't be racist as they will kill all whether black, white, Gay, Straight, Other without differentiating. Apocalypse Soon!
