The 'you're not from around here' thing has diminished a lot over recent years as it's not only ethnic minorities that have been mobile. I recall about four years after I moved to the village here that a lovely old lady in the village who had been here since the mid sixties although she was originally from Fort William, was asking me how we were settling in and I said to her that I hadn't really gotten to know that many people in the village and she said 'I shouldn't worry about it, I hardly know anyone here either'. What she meant was that in her case, all the people she had know for decades had either moved away or died and the population of the village changes so often nowadays that there were hardly any longstanding residents around and, in fact, there was only a single person in the village who was born in the village to parents from the village, the Postman, and even he has now moved away.
