I should be 5 mph. You might then stand a chance of not buckling a wheel in a 21st Century pothole!

I nearly lost the front end bottoming out the front on a bend and went back to inspect a gash maybe 10' long and 6" deep where the edge of the road was probably migrating into a broken drainage run. Soil myself? Yup.

Ah there may be some crazy stuff going on up there but @Big Sandy himself is actually, I believe, from fairly south in Scotland (South Ayrshire to be precise) and, to be honest, there are probably as many English, Polish, LIthuanian and Latvian residents in most parts of rural Scotland as there are actual Scots.
Dad was ex Seaforths, when he left he got an instant job offer from Cheshire Constabulary, before it became Greater Manchester, of course. So I was actually born in Stockport… when he left the rozzers, he moved back North, we lived near a little village called Barr, far enough out to have no neighbours, here https://images.app.goo.gl/KYKin1Gv9kimXC9C6 in fact….about 15 miles from Girvan.

Then after leaving prison…err, school, I followed the jobs, so been all over. Moved house 3 times in 18 Months at one point, that was fun.

Population wise, where we are there are 9 houses. Only one has a family member who is actually from here (not counting his kids, all of whom bar one, have left). The rest, myself included, are “white settlers”. Two are “local” as in, from Sutherland, the rest have come from far south, London, Portsmouth , Kent…..cheaper houses compared to darn sarf, but the locals still can’t afford them. Myself? Council house scum, me. 🤣

At a fairly anodyne level it's similar to Lenny Henry complaining about the lack of black faces in the Glastonbury audience. It's just because nobody fancied the setlist (or the inflated ticket prices, but that's a separate rant), there has never been a whiff of exclusion.

Funny thing about Glastonbury was back in the day when it was all rather more anarchic, the audience was much more mixed.

Now it's much more 'safe' and expensive, it's much more middle-class and white.

The change is nothing to do with race, but a by-product of it becoming a mainstream, expensive, middle-class event rather than an anarchic underground crusty one.

BBC News - Greenford: Elderly man on mobility scooter stabbed to death
Now they have a suspect and in true BBC style they describe the suspect down to his gloves "BUT" leave out the bit about him being BLACK

Fair play to this lady for taking a stand against that bullshit...

BBC News - RAF diversity: Senior female recruitment officer resigns over targets

Whatever happened to the best man or woman for the job? Who'd be happy knowing the guy flying the plane or maintaining it. Only got the job cos he met a quota? He was too dense to get the job based on his actual abilities.

On a lighter note...

That went to the wall some time ago, many a good candidate has been overpassed for promotion, as we used to say "unless you are Black got big tits or are as bent as a dogs hind leg you have no chance, there was infact a system of fast tracking for those that fitted that role

Now I know some very competant WAAF's who could do the job as good as the guy's untill it involved heavy lifting, Once I sent a young Airman and woman to pick up some kit, on their return the lass was struggling like feck to carry the equipment I just asked the lad "are you going to let her struggle with that" "yes" he replied she gets paid the same so let her earn it, I could see his logic I did not care if they could do the job but if they can't it is wrong to place people in those job's

7 years after I left t'RN, i went back to Pompey/Southsea for mi honeymoon. I met a local lad, who lived int next village who was on t'Invincible, which was mi last ship. He invited us on board for a drink in t'Chief Petty Officers mess. I loved it cos I didn't know mi wife when I served, so I could show her how/where we lived. I was told that the men didn't really want women onboard, because apart from the obvious complications of living in an enclosed environment, t'biggest fear at sea is fire. You have nowhere to go, so you have to put it out, or abandon ship. The men were concerned that if you were fighting a fire 3,4 or 5 decks down, and you were partnered with a woman, and you got hurt, how would they get you out? A man will struggle to get you out, especially if you're wearing breathing apparatus. Also, when you get stores aboard at sea, it can be a heavy job. Int past we would do a couple of heavy ones, then a rest from one, whereas now, the men were getting all t'heavy ones. It mighta changed now, cos that was in 1991. Oh, and I ended up absolutely ratarsed! 🍻🍻😁

Spot on @Foxy and when they talk about equality that did not include the fitness test, when an 18 year old female only had to reach the same standard as a 40 year old male, equality doctored to suit the system.

I wish I could say that I was shocked by that 40-hour wait but I'm not. A mate of mine's father down Stoke way fell down his stairs. The ambulance was called and he was told it would be around 24 hours before it would arrive! When he asked if he should take his Dad to hospital then the 999 operator said "I cannot advise you to do that Sir as moving of the patient by someone without professional training and equipment may result in additional injury or death" as if making a 92 year old man who has fallen down stairs wait 24 hours for 'professionals' to arrive won't!
