Not quite, when Mars (an American Company) released the product in 1931 it was branded as Marathon for the UK market because Snickers sounded too much like Knickers and they didn’t want anyone making that link

So here it was always a Marathon bar until 1990 when Mars decided it made sense to unify the brand name worldwide to Snickers

The name Snickers apparently came from the Mars families favourite horse
