I am not bothering with the malarky of Christmas I will make a super curry and enjoy it even more certainly not chasing the normal festive stuff

Last time we had a group of mates at ours on Christmas day we all went out for a ruby - really good, place full of jolly drunks without kids!

Done the usual roast enough times with them so they weren't disappointed.

I read somewhere today that BP are now saying that, thanks to rearraning drivers shifts they now have more than enough drivers but not enough tankers! I suspect that this whole shitstorm, 'fuel crisis' was engineered simply to try and get cheap labour from Poland and the stupid bastards now realise that the shortage is actually an international shortage and they simply can't get cheap labour any more.

She's 96yrs old, was a cillian worker & wasn't an adult at the time of the alleged offence.
What are the German authorities hoping to gain from putting her on trail?
Obviously what the Nazis did was horrific. But this seems petty at best & at worse it's just an attempt to appease the lefties 😏
Apparently, according to a German friend.
Germany has a bigger problem with the "woke" left than we Brits do?

A difficult one that, justice must be done and seen to be done, and the passage of time should not be a defence to hide behind
Equally what good comes out of prosecuting a 96 year old woman though:unsure:

Is it Similar to the issues around prosecuting soldiers and IRA and Loyalists for events in Northern Ireland 40/50 years ago?

Quite a conundrum Jez

Yep, not an easy one I guess.
But the claim is that she played no active part in the atrocities. She was merely very likely to have been aware of what was taking place at the camp.
If so, what could she have realistically done to prevent it Nick? Who could she have reported it to? What would have happened if she had found a sympathetic ear to confide in?
She could have resigned from her civilian role as nothing more than a secretary. But she'd have been easily & quickly replaced.
And nothing would have changed for the prisoners.

Also, let's not overlook the fact that the link I posted was from the BBC. Therefore if there was only a 5% possibility that she played an active part. They'd have undoubtedly mentioned that.

Maybe more details will surface if she stands trial? However, at the minute I stand by what I said mate.

Totally get your point Jez, is justice being served by continuing these prosecutions?

I’m guessing that in hindsight the view is that people in 1940’s Germany should have refused to do this type of work, but that’s easier said than done!

Should there be a truth and reconciliation tribunal set up similar to South Africa after apartheid ended after which there are no more prosecutions? That would actually be a decent blueprint to use in all these situations

In this particular case my dichotomy is that on one hand you have someone who was intimately involved in the Nazi machine and should be recognised and put on trial for their Beurocratic involvement in the running of that machine, and on the other hand she was someone who didn’t (apparently) do anything directly wrong I.e pulled a trigger, signed death warrants etc

I suspect the only people who can say whether it’s worth continuing prosecuting these cases are the victims but then when does Justice turn to revenge? And is revenge an acceptable reason to continue these trials?

Don’t forget that when German reunification was on the cards Mrs T had a private meeting at Chequers in March 1990. She, ministers and eminent historians discussed how things might unfold with an enquiry into the German National psyche…… characterised in one briefing note as “angst [underlined], aggressiveness, assertiveness, bullying, egotism, inferiority complex, sentimentality”. Capt Drunkey can put us straight!

I remember one German friend commented ‘not very flattering but not far wrong.’ The British could be equally guilty of another bunch of adjectives as I freely admitted! Certainly the Germans generally were very conflicted about a whole host of things and the Baader Meinhof gang were kind of woke with bullets. Equally the French student movement of the late 60s was Marxist inspired and doubtless Soviet supported. We see to get political cycles each generation but 90% of us don’t give a monkeys about screaming on street corners.

Don't forget 'Iron Hoof', Woofter etc. :D I was actually watching The Kenny Everett Video Show tonight (Channel 187 on Sky I think it was) and the wife asked me if Kenny Everett was gay. Chirst of course he was and everybody knew it, it was bleedin obvious just like it was with Freddie Mercury, John Inman and Rob Halford but no-one cared. That was the way it was back then now if you are of that persuasion you aren't allowed to keep it simply your own business but have to shout it from the rooftops and make everybody bend the knee as if it makes you somehow special.
