Is that a collie? Looks like one, seriously clever dogs. The farmer up the glen does all the 'one man and his dog' stuff with his. My neighbours got one as well and it's figured out how to jump up onto his garden toolbox then jump from there to the top of his air source heating fan and then, from there it leaps to his bathroom window sill (only about three or four inches wide) so that it can look over our fence and say hello.

I had a border collie came from working parents but they were working cattle dogs amazing dog so clever She was 18 when she died and never slowed down till the end. She died 22 years ago and I still miss her. I've got a crazy rescue lurcher he's a great dog, but nut case, but a great temperament he's 10 and can still catch a rabbit in a sprint. Catch them he does but he's never killed any of them just licks them then lets them go.

I never knew how bloody clever and crazy Chihuahua's are! The one I got the wife, Poppy, is one smart cookie and cute as a button. T'other day I chucked three chips left over from dinner to my old Westie and they scattered over the floor in front of him. Being pretty much blind and deaf he is quite slow on getting to food. Well wee Poppy rushes into the kitchen, grabs one chip, takes it over and drops it beside the next chip, picks both up in her mouth and drops them beside the third and final chip then picks all three up and buggers off with them. Once I'd stopped laughing I gave the old Westie some of the other chips that were left. Next at lunchtime today the missus had a wee pizza and she left a lot of it which she broke up on the plate and put down for Shuggie the Westie after having been giving Poppy bits while she was eating. Well Poppy runs across the room, grabs the edge of the plate (a plastic one) in her mouth and then drags it backwards across the room then sits down and eats as much as she can before Shuggie can get across the room to get back at it.

Later in the afternoon I came in from being out the back garden and Poppy had dragged in a bundle of moss and a stick from somewhere. I looked at her and growled 'bad girl' at which she hunkered down in the corner, then rolled over all mortified looking. I turned away and the wife told me that she crawled across the room to me with her belly on the ground and then, when I looked down at my feet she looked all big eyes and apologies and rolled over at my feet. Quite the wee actress!

I'm developing a real appreciation for the intelligence of the breed.

I'm very glad that Poppy is working out so well for you guys Marty 😃
But 99% of the time, in my experience miniature breeds are an aggressive nightmare.
The smaller the breed the more unreasonable & aggressive they are. The Jack Russell is a prime example. As a small dog bred to kill other small furry vermin. It's superb at that but crap at controlling its temper around other much larger dogs.
Both of my previous EBT's suffered multiple attacks from similar handbag dogs. Fortunately they were placid enough to allow me to kick said handbag dog across the park to stop the "attack"
It always went down badly with the other dog owners though. Even though me launching their dog potentially saved their pet being torn to shreds!
When my dogs finally realised the micro dogs attack wasn't just rough play.

I had heard that myself @DD67 but, so far, wee Poppy hasn't been aggressive in the slightest. When we've taken her out she's been terrified of the other bigger dogs we've encountered. On the lead she will hide behind me and off the lead she will come running to me wanting to be picked up. She plays with, annoys the hell out of Shuggie the Westie but has never gone for the grumpy old bugger and when he shouts at her she backs well off. I reckon she will work out just fine. The Missus seems to think that all our dogs have seen me as the boss and taken my word as law but I reckon she's just winding me up. Funny though, how, back in his younger days, Shuggie bit my Dad in the bollocks, the kids Dad in the bollocks and a visiting joiner who ignored me when I told him not to try and pat Shuggie nearly lost a finger almost as if the wee fella was reading my mind.

The whole "boss/alpha dog thing" in the family pack is an extremely grey area mate.
As I've said before, we were Dozers 5th owners at just 14 months old.
Consequently I needed to knock a few of the rough corners off of his "acquired behaviour"
Eventually we came to an understanding & I loved him & he loved/respected me 🙂

But he never fully respected Mrs DD. If only I had a quid for every time I heard..."Dozer, pack that in! Oi Dozer are you listening to me? Jez, tell him he's ignoring me again!"...
He loved her but he didn't respect her authority. She spent far too much time cuddling & kissing him. Without ever disciplining him. Consequently (as a notoriously headstrong breed) he saw himself as above her in the pack/pecking order.
