As some of you know I had a new greyhound a few weeks ago. Wife has gone up north to visit her mum and family. Had a takeaway delivered Saturday evening and when I opened the front door, she ran out. She caught our cat, more the wife's really and pinned her down. I got the cat home and wrapped her up in a blanket she didn't look good and was in shock. Took her to the vets first thing Sunday unfortunately she died at the vets. I haven’t told my wife yet as don't want to spoil her holiday, I feel so bad. I don't think she will want to keep our dog but it's not the dogs fault she was just doing what's she has been trained and praised for.
Would you get away with saying a different dog did it? Or even that the cat ran away?
Telling lies is never good, but sometimes it can protect folk from a far harsher truth.

Sadly the cat is gone & can't be brought back. It would be a crying shame if the dog lost its loving home as well Gazza 😞

I see what you are saying but I can't lie to my wife, she has been so good for me since we met 30 years ago I just couldn't do it. Just hoping she will come round to keeping her after the initial anger.

Well Little Lazarus hasn't quit yet.

Having been on an iv drip and rattling with various pills he has kept down a light breakfast and may yet eke out a few more months as my favourite trip hazard. Peeing fine but now anxiously awaiting his first dump!

Sorry to hear about the cat Gazza. The important thing is that you look grief stricken and take the blame yourself. Furthermore a new kitten could prove a smart move along with a muzzle when needed.

Glad to hear Lazarus doing well.
I'm not a cat fan but wouldn't wish any harm to them. It was more the wife's cat she was a friendly thing though. Not sure about another cat but understand your sentiments. Well the wife's back tomorrow and I'll be glad when she is, it's been tough not saying anything to her and pretending all is ok.
We muzzled the greyhound when in the garden just in case, the cat would sit under a bush and the dog took no notice. Its when they run that triggers greyhounds. Just hoping we can keep the dog but I'm not hopeful.

Vets.

Took the daggets for their vaccinations (£137) and got told " one is overweight by 2lb, and they both need dental work, at about £400 each." Mollie is 11, Tia is 7. Wondering if it's worth the spend? Yes, probably...so got to raise the funds first.

This is the same vet that came out to an elderly neighbour to her cat. £95 call-out out of hours. "Cat needs tests...." so, 3 nights vets stay, £90 a night. Specialist scans, three different ones, £400. Only to be told, "Cat won't recover. Needs putting to sleep." £97.

Nearly a grand.

Not bad earnings eh?

I insure my lurcher £70 a month when we first took it out it was £20 a momth, but he's into the insureance company for £3500. £2200 was for fight he picked with a Transit van doing the best part. of 30MPH he came second. It degloved his front right leg 2.5 hours on the opperating table, drugs. and 2 night stay at vets. That was when he was 11months and a dozy builder left the front gate open sacked the b***ard there and then with a parting gift. He's 11 at xmas

I wish we'd taken out insurance when they were younger.... too late now they are getting on a bit, they aren't interested.

Mind you, I do think it's the insurance that makes the bills as high as they are. The vets know the insurers will pay, so they charge more.

The treatment of the neighbours cat was disgusting. I get the call-out charge, but I knew it was a gonner before she rang for the vet. The vet knew too I reckon.

Aye we've got the wife's Chihuahua insured, we've just bought another Chi pup (the wife finally wore me down about the first one needing a friend) and it has a month's free insurance and once that ends well be taking out more on it. Used to be the answer to just about everything at the vets was 'put her/him to sleep' but now it's 'Ding Ding, we're in the money' for the vets. Last time we were down getting the boosters for the dog I was talking to a guy who was in with his two Collies. They were brother and sister that he got from a breeder. He said that, when they were about a year old they started having hip problems. Turned out it was a congenital defect and they had had over fourteen thousand quid's worth of surgery to date, on the insurance. The insurers and the vets must be making a fortune.

I hope giving her the news isn't too traumatic @gazzatriumph and that you get to keep the hound. Ain't the dog's fault, just doing what comes naturally I reckon.
The wife came back today, I told her what happened she was upset but isn't saying the dog has to go although understandably she is a bit off with her. So Star is going to be staying and we need to be more aware. Top wife.

Well, in a similar positive vein, Lazarus gave birth to a 2" jobbie last night in failing light to all round celebrations. Hooray! His alimentary tract is working, motility restored, no spastic gut..... that panty liner didn't kill him 🥊

Well this morning about 11 a.m. I took him for a wee constitutional/constipational and noticed something looking horribly like a tape worm hanging out of his bahookie (technical term of Glaswegian origin). Summonsed the resident Registered Nurse who promptly pulled on her neoprene gloves and flexed her fingers as only a proctologist can.

She withdrew a metre of florists tape for tying bunches of flowers 💐 It didn't smell of roses and must have tickled his ribs, never mind his large/small intestine and bowel 🫣

He's now reverted to turbo puppy. I am beginning to think he's dementing and eating any old crap like a Labrador. Whatever, good togo & to try and make his 15th birthday in early December.
