R.I.P Lilly 😔

The perfect dog in every possible way.
Intelligent, playful, funny. And INCREDIBLY protective of her pack. Without ever needing to be trained to do so. Just like most misjudged bull breed dogs 🙂

3 months ago after not being herself for a couple of weeks. She was diagnosed with terminal lymphoma cancer. Sadly at just before 4:30am today, she lost her battle with it ☹
She'd have turned 15 next month & we'd had her for over 14.5yrs.

She was found living in a garage with her 3 brothers. Allegedly they were the accidental byproduct of a mating between her parents that were being kept in cages in the same garage.
Mum & Dad were both being used as fighting dogs (there are some evil c#nts in this world! 😡)

That might explain Lilly's totally fearless nature? But she was never aggressive towards anyone, or anything without good reason.

Here she is on our first ever walk 🙂...

Thankfully she grew out of that pink nose. Cos Mrs DD originally wanted to call her "Babe". After the pig in the movie of the same name. The floppy ear (which she also grew out of) & the fact she was 98% pure white. Earned her the name Lilly 🙂

She'll be missed desperately, but unfortunately nothing lasts forever 🙁

Cheers lads.
When I look at that photo of Lilly as a 4 month old pup. Then compare it with her as a seriously muscular adult. V's the skinny/weak dog we took to the Vets at 4am today.
It breaks my heart! 😔

However, it also makes me realise that animals can have dignity in death. That humans are denied

Mrs DD had an out of hours Vet booked for 6:40pm yesterday to come to our house to send Lilly off to "Rainbow Bridge" (Google that if necessary?) But cos Lilly perked up, that visit got cancelled.

However, we were still able to do the right thing by Lilly at gone 4am via our regular Vet.
Humans suffering in the same way are not afforded such treatment. Without an awful lot of forms being filled in & a trip across europe 🙁

@Sarky B’stard
I make no excuses/apologies for lots of "man tears" & no doubt there'll be many more mate. Any man that can't openly shed tears when his dog dies, has no soul! 🙁

Cheers HT,

I cried like a baby in front of the female Vet, & I feel no shame for doing so.

Lilly wasn't a fan of the Vets to say the least.
So we asked if they'd do the deed in the back of my car in the carpark? To their credit, they complied 🙂

She was obviously ready to go cos they injected 20% of the drug whilst we watched & then suggested that we said our goodbyes whilst the other 80% was injected via an IV.
As we kissed her goodbye she closed her eyes & stopped the laboured breathing she'd been doing hours prior.

It still hurts but we definitely did the right thing by her & at the right time HT.

Unfortunately, unlike yourself.
I've been told by Mrs DD.
NO MORE PETS EVER! Sadly, I think she means it mate ☹

However, If/when I turn up with another furry, 4 legged retard (aka a typical English Bull Terrier)
She'll play her face for a day or two. Then she'll fall in love with it for another 10yrs+ 😉

So sorry to hear Lilly has passed, the bond made with a dog is like nothing else, and so heartbreaking when they go. As you say better to do the right thing and let them go with dignity.

I'm not an emotional man, I don't get upset at funerals etc, but having to say goodbye to two dogs previously reduced me to sheds of tears each time 😭

I swore that I would wait at least twelve months before getting another dog after my little black Staffy passed, but my evil ex volunteered at a re-homing centre and after about 6 weeks she started sending me pictures of dogs they had needing homes... I didn't hold out long 😉

Lilly obviously had a good and happy life with you and Mrs DD, those are the memories to cherish. Once again so sorry mate.

Like everyone else I'm sorry that you've had to say goodbye to Lilly Jez. Our three dogs are all getting to age that they are likely to pass on in the near future. Our big black dog was diagnosed with an aggressive tumour over two years ago but she's still with us but now she is reaching the 'expected' lifespan for her breed. Really not looking forward to having to say goodbye to them all.

Emotional response when a man's dog passes is permitted..
Also if someone hurts or kills your dog your allowed to kill them...
It's a man dog thing...🦆

RIP, Lilly.
If it helps, Jez, I heard that my Cindy (Border Collie crossed wi' summat orange) had died when I got back in radio range of base after tipping 25 tonnes of barley at Knapton near Scarborough. Spent the next hour in a layby just outside Malton sobbing my eyes out. She had been my constant companion in my wagon for around 7 years after my divorce. She was pretty much the daughter I never had. I miss her to this day and will never forget her. So many happy memories!
There you are then, now you know. Badass biking trucker is a right bloody softy!! Who knew??
