Well this may bring the musical tone down a bit. Mrs Public Enemy and myself went to see Sweet at The Picturedrome in Holmfirth last night. They were excellent, and even 72 year old Andy Scott can still sing. The rest of the band have changed over the years but they still sound like they did back in the seventies. Which is either a god or a bad thing depending on your view.
Anyway, I'm off to play "Little Willy"

Good voice he had @Foxy and a fairly mean hand at the Joanna too.

Jerry Lee is some showman and still has a cracking voice. I heartily recommend the album 'Last Man Standing' where he sings with the likes of Rod Stewart, Bruce Springsteen and Mick Jagger and manages to sound younger and fresher than all of them.

There is a story that Charlie Rich went to Sun Records to audtion on piano and vocals (he was a classically trained and talented pianist) and Sam Phillips told him to come back when he could play as 'badly' and with as much energy and excitement as Jerry Lee.

This has come as a shock...

BBC News - Janice Long: BBC DJ and broadcaster dies at 66
This is why my attitude to life is not give a shit about anything, eat drink and be merry for tomorrow you may die as the saying goes, things annoy us as we discuss on here but in my heart I just say fook it and as an old pal of mine used to say fook em all bar one and bollox to him, always look on the bright side of life as the song say's as the last laugh is on you,

Contemplating the miserable state of socialising, drinking establishments, and live music venues, I realise how lucky we were in the 70’s, and 80’s

In the town I grew up in (Maidstone) we had dozens of live venues pubs clubs and village halls - all now gone

And this is what we were busting boot laces to(y)

Good stuff!

When young, so much of the entertainment was free too - great pub bands, and there was the free festival scene.

While often more talented than the shouty teenage bands of my youth, most live acts in local pubs these days seem my age!

And you'd get quite big names at the Corn Exchange, I used to run down to the Leas Cliffe in Folkestone but it was the same circuit. Have seen people from Rory Gallagher to Motorhead there. I'm sure Hawkwind used to come round every other month. And John Martyn on the months Hawkwind were busy.

Yep I roadied for Hawkwind (post Lemmy) when they played the Art College - they were paid gigs though

The guys I tagged ‘The Pop Rivets’ And The Milkshakes and loads of others were free in pubs clubs and village halls (maybe 50p entrance) - live music was much more accessible in those days

There’s a garden in Maidstone town centre (Brenchley Gardens) with a bandstand where impromptu summer gigs were performed by all the local bands - all free in the 80’s (y)

And brilliant to listen to after the Saturday lunch session waiting for the pubs to open for the evening session :p

I nearly went to Maidstone college but got a place at Canterbury so went there instead, you had a near miss :D

When I have a drink and a catchup with Tiff the conversation often turns to the pub bands we used to see and just how much live music was part of our weekend pattern. The circuit does seem to be sustained by blokes broadly our age these days but then I'm not gatecrashing Uni gigs etc at 'this time in my life' so I'm an unreliable witness maybe.
