War with China/Russia

I don't buy that for a moment. Russia's Army is overwhelmingly 12 month conscripts and there are precious few 'big boys'. They would have been the paratroops that got mauled seizing Hostomel airfield and they seem to have needed two bites to do that. Artillery is the Russian way of war and they view ground attack aircraft as extended range artillery.
They are badly out of practice, possess few smart munitions but will learn fast enough. They are indiscriminate because they can't discriminate!
At some point Russia will take Ukraine and I guess there will be continued resistance to them, its what happens after Ukraine as to whether WW3 will start.

A bit of both I think. With so much support amongst the Western public for Ukraine it makes financial sense to be seen to support them with your products. I don't care if he makes a packet off it if it helps the Ukrainians keep fighting against Putin.

I find it far more depressing that online so many people in the West are now saying "Please everyone keep quiet, big bad Putin has nuclear weapons and if we don't let him continue to slaughter Ukrainians unimpeded and lay waste to their sovereign state he might look in our direction and we don't want to take on this threat to the free world if it costs us anything or means risk to us". Seems we've gone from 'Mutually Assured Destruction' to 'He's got nukes, give him what he wants'.
I dont think Putin would hesitate to go nuclear though, and that has to be avoided at pretty much any cost. Someone needs to kill the bastard, and soon. I agree that the ukrainians are being sacrificed, but the alternative, dont bare thinking about.

I differ. That what he wants you to think. He needs to know it's just not worth going there and that while we respect his capabilities the threat simply isn't credible because the game isn't worth that candle......and we all know it.

Well our boat will be tooling around somewhere safe at about 4 kts with its successor lined up to take over. Personally I think it must be the most boring job in the Forces. Having been on a 'Boomer' I can assure you the views are shite. Just a low hum and endless light green and cream paint. You don't even get a porthole. 😢
Porthole?????????????? Fuckin porthole????????????????????

Nuclear boats aren't too bad. They have loads of electrical power to freshen up the atmosphere. The old diesel electrics and their crews were stinkers. I am sure your imagination can cope but basically an oily

When t'owd diesel boats used to come alongside t'hatches were opened from t'outside, by chaps in respirators, cos t'smell was that bad. T'crew were used to it.

I agree with Sarky. I think that, if Putin tried to reach for the Nuclear button even his closest allies would put a bullet in him. Like any bully he is relying on threats of breaking out the big guns to make the pussies back down and, it seems that a lot of people are willing to give the bully what he wants rather than stand up to him and force him to back down. It was ever thus and sadly ever shall be. People willing to risk all for the win are few and far between. Depressing.

On the Indian subject they have long been allies of Russia although I don't think I have ever heard it mentioned by UK media, probably to keep down the possibility of an anti-Indian backlash. I doubt folks would be quite so keen on Tata Steel, Royal Enfields, New Norton, Indian call centre's etc if it was widely publicised. It's funny too that Pakistani's are coming out in support of the country who have supplied their arch enemy with all it's Nuclear technology over the years.

The Indians are heavily invested in Russian kit. They will likely migrate in the future but right now they need that spares and engineering support..... not least with China getting punchier.

Watching the Russians breaking the ceasefire to create an evacuation corridor out of Mariupol this morning I’m minded it’s time NATO grows some balls and takes Putin on in all out war and takes him and his regime out

The little cunt can’t be trusted:(

Fighting with your balls is not recommended. Brains would tell you the worse it goes for him the greater the chances of 'internal reform'.

So, supplying defensive materiel and deploying sanctions against his most influential backers helps the Ukrainians and sews more division in Russia. Becoming combatants would provide the very recruiting sergeant Putin most needs and validate his original pretexts.

No, it's messy right now but not altogether a bad strategy to contain things. It's bad enough......

I've got to admit that I am coming to the conclusion that the Russian people will soon have to also bear the blame for their failure to rein in their little tyrant. I wouldn't be averse to making Russia and Belarus cease to exist as states followed by India, China, Pakistan and a few others.

I simply take the view nothing and no one - and certainly none of the high level actors - are entirely innocent.

The civilian victims and even the troops are swept up in events and commands over which they have no control but you can argue about the small 'p' politics of the Ukraine's drift westwards and Russian reaction to it. You can also see swathes of the Russian population would welcome going the same way but they don't live in a functioning democracy.

The centre of gravity in Russia is almost exclusively Putin himself. He doesn't seem to have taken half his 'cabinet' (henchmen) into his confidence about the planned attack and yet https://www.theepochtimes.com/china...ing-it-had-foreknowledge-analyst_4317762.html

BBC News - War in Ukraine: Russian helicopter shot down by missile

I'm only guessing but that didn't look to be a guided missile? It reminded me of shooting just in front of a fast moving object. So that the shot has time to reach the area that the target will eventually occupy. Just as the target arrives.
If so, it was a very fancy bit of shooting 🙂
