@DD67 Don't you mean that it's what happens when your new-fangled 'fly-by-wire' electronic 'brain' farts and dies where the old school mechanical machine chugs along without a hitch?
I see they are suggesting on the BBC that it might have been some muppet forgetting to take a cover off the engine. Hmm you would have thought that, if that was the case there would have been sensors on the aircraft to stop it long before it went 'catastrophic'. It ain't a great bit of video but the plane looks like it was plodding along at nowhere near take-off speed it's hard to believe that, if that video is genuine, the pilot didn't know there was something wrong and couldn't have stopped long before he hit the ski-jump.
The beeb are also saying that 'the pilot ejected shortly after take-off' but you can't really call that 'take-off' as he appears to simply drive over the edge.
