What does woke mean to you?

Based on the comments from post #30 onwards in this thread.
It goes to prove that it isn't a left wing V's right wing thing. As the leftie extremists would like us to believe.
The rows only start when it becomes a rational people V's sanctimonious pricks thing.

I look at it this way - in 30's Weimar Germany the best recruiting call for the Nazis was fear of Communism, and the biggest recruiting call for the Communists was fear of the Nazis. The centre collapsed and the fringes grew, and it didn't end well - it never does.

I agree with you about Brexit - I voted remain on a 60:40 decision, but accepted we lost and thought now we get on with making leaving work, and like you I was shocked by the behaviour of those who to this day appear to be fighting against a democratic decision.

But I'm as happy arguing against an undemocratic liberal elite as I am against other injustices - bloody argue with anyone me ;)

DS

I'm absolutely with you on that one. For me Brexit was head ruling heart, but once the votes were cast it was shocking how many people have fought against the result, to the point where we are now several years behind where we could have been if they had just accepted it and got with the program. Theresa May's approach to BREXIT took the same route of appeasement to Europe as Neville Chamberlain which was never going to end well. Dislike Boris Johnson as a person, but he is the right man for the job he has right now if you consider what the alternatives are!

I actually agree with the idea of 'woke' as an ideal - equal rights for everyone regardless of race, gender, or sexuality. Unfortunately the ideal has been warped by those with a culture of victimhood into a mission of vengeance against anyone who falls outside of their illiberal and impractical narratives where equal does not actually mean equal, so much as they want an equality driven outcome, rather than equality on a meritocratic basis.

The scary thing is that they call people fascists and Nazis, when their behaviour of vilification and censorship of anyone or anything they don't like or question their narrative is far more in line with Fascism than any right wing parties in modern democracies. The way Gina Carino has been treated is a case in point.
Hold up a mirror to them by pointing that out and they hate you even more for it. Perhaps it is a combination of self loathing and denial? Freud would have a field day with them, but at least we have Jordan Petersen to hold the mirror!

Of course the Vegans also don't seem to realise that, in order for the planet to go Vegan we would have to Kill not only the domestic cattle, pigs and sheep because we won't have sufficient resources 'spare' from feeding global populations to feed them but we would also have to euthanase, or at least phase out with natural wasteage, all pets and ban pet ownership. Then of course we would have to intensively farm the land meaning devastating the hedgerows and wildflower populations even more. Then there is the energy intensives ploughing and harvesting of the crops not to mention the intensive and energy demanding industrial processes required to make Vegan 'alternatives' like Soy Milk and Tofu, veggie burgers etc. Compared to the processing cows milk requires Soya milk is an incredibly energy intensive and lengthy process to make something that still tastes like liquid cardboard! It's all very well for a small minority to go Vegan because they can't bear the thought that, like all apex predators, killing is part of God's plan but for us all to do it would devastate the planet far more badly than being omnivorous does. Of course the main people pushing this agenda at the moment are not the average person who is Vegan for their own conscientious reasons or beliefs but rather by companies who see an opening in the 'eco' market they can exploit.

I love these adverts for washing powders/liquids etc. that talk about how eco friendly they are and 'committed to saving the planet' when, let's face it, if they really gave a shit their adverts would say something like " We have been destroying the planet for long enough with our chemical cleaning products and made incredibly huge shitloads of money doing it and, to prove our commitment to saving the planet we are, henceforth, stopping the production of all our chemically polluting products". Somehow I doubt we will ever hear them say such a thing!

I guess that is one of the things that annoys me the most. Big business is manipulating people using the hot topics of Equal Rights, Racism, Ecological concerns and, of course, covid and the gullible don't seem to realise that it's all a fraud simply to sell product.

I believe that this push to ban meat is all about control and enslavement, nothing to do with environmentalism. As you correctly state to feed the world without eating animals would require more land for food production, which would bring in the requisition of land from private ownership (one of the stated aims of the WEF and the Great Reset). Then the general population is totally dependent on the state (or global government) for their food to exist, almost no one would be able to feed themselves, thus they have to comply simply to live.

Similar to vegans and their refusal to accept they have to kill millions and millions of insects to grow veg. Point blank refusal.
I had a discussion once when a vegan started calling me a murderer for wearing my cut.

I pointed out her shoes, and got "but it's vegan leather".

Me: "So, what is vegan leather made of then"

Her: "Oil"

Me: "So, the only difference is how long ago the animals we are wearing died then?"

Her: "Oil isn't animals!"

Me: "No point trying to reason with uneducated imbeciles that base their prejudices on a fallacy!"

Her: "I went to university! I'm not uneducated"

Me: "Then ask for your tuition fees back because everything you have said thus far proves otherwise."

Aye, and to grow the very veg that these people want requires fertilizers, so no natural slurry from cows that will be done away with leaving chemicals, more and more chemicals how is that environmentally friendly, nature is a very fine balance kill the insects off and bird life will suffer and so on and so an,

Spot on @GaleForceEight I had this argument with a niece of mine, you can't tell them they know better and it's almost as though they are all quoting from the same source that they have been indoctrinated with

I've used this quote (joke) before but it's so true...

Q : How will you know if the stranger you're talking to is a vegan?

A : Don't worry, they'll be sure to tell you!

Not all of them, but several use it as a way of displaying how woke they are.

I think that is part of the problem - social media especially just reinforces certain opinions with little dissent.

Of course this happens with all opinions, but the 'over-woke' are more vocal in sharing theirs.

Sounds like yourself & the people you mentioned are what I'd call genuine liberals.
That's great, I only have an issue with the virtue signalling plastic variety. The sort that think everything has to be their way, or it's the wrong way. They preach about tolerance whilst being totally intolerant themselves!

@chas & @Capt. Drunkey
Good news lads, you're no longer the only liberals in the village 😉
I think I might be a Liberal, I had to Google Woke though, so maybe not? ;)

Amazed this thread is in danger of staggering into a 4th page. What’s to add? Woke is one of those wonderful words that has been thrown back in the teeth of those stupid enough to coin and embrace such a vapid, virtue spewing term of nonsense. It used to be enough to be decent and fair minded.
