Going by the name of the Operations Manager 'E Tugwell Smith' which sounds like instructions to a Yorkshire Wanker called Smith I gotta say it's probably genuine. No-one would make up a name like that and expect to be taken seriously!

When I was a guest of the local constabulary many years ago food was absolutely bloody disgusting barely thawed out frozen crap! I was looking forward to a good supper from the local chippie too!

And if they claim its genuine, then ask them for proof of the original NIP that was dated within the 14 day period.
Done a bit more research and it appears the 14 day limit doesn’t apply if DVLA either supplied the wrong info or didn’t respond

Also the Police are not duty bound to supply any evidence before a court case…

https://www.pattersonlaw.co.uk/faqs/defective-nip-14-days-offence/

I think the best course of action is to fill the form in and include a covering letter questioning why there has been such a long lapse in time between the offence and notifying me

As it stands I’ll get a speed awareness course and no points if I pursue this and DVLA got something wrong, points and large fine

If you think it is genuine?
Your suggested course of action is definitely the best option Nick.
Having had numerous run-ins with the DVLA. I can tell you from a very well informed perspective. They make the phrase "law unto themselves" look like the understatement of the millennium!

They can & do move the goalposts to suit themselves.
I was once instructed to present a kit car for inspection in the UK. Unfortunately I'd sold it to a guy from southern Ireland.
However he very kindly offered to drive it across the border into NI.
The car was inspected and it passed with flying colours.
But the evil jobsworth bitch at my local DVLA office (it's closed since then) insisted NI isn't part of the UK. Therefore the inspection was invalid.

Obviously that's absolute boll#cks. But she wouldn't admit it & insisted the car came back to the mainland UK! 😏
I tried to escalate the matter to her boss but got nowhere. The buck stopped with her & because I'd laughed at her ridiculous claim regarding NI.
She successfully blocked my attempts to escalate the matter.

That is just one of several shitty experiences with the DVLA.

Pretty sure it’s genuine NIP and I cant see what I gain fighting it except a Pyrrhic victory:confused:

And reading your tale makes me think I’ll be on a hiding to nothing anyway - the wankers:cautious:

The story I told you could be explained away as she didn't like me laughing at her ridiculous claim.
However, on the other occasions I've crossed swords with the DVLA. They've damn near said..."Stop trying to apply logic. The way this works is that we provide the hoops & you jump through them!"...

As you said Nick...The w@nkers! 😏
