Nicking a shiny new BMW I can understand, even if I don't condone - but then torching just stumps me.

Not all in my family have been completely straight in the past, but the thieving always made sense, and wasn't directly 'off their own'.

And scrotes usually go for something they can ride off road or they think is really fast.

Ms S reckons one lad wanted one said so as they were leaving the pub and he saw it, so half larking about they tried to nick it - best hypothesis I've heard so far.

Just the other week a fellow on a Scottish Facebook biker page posted photos up of a pair of scrotes who stole his beloved but battered old Yamaha XS650 and the guys in the pics were no youngsters. At a guess they were in their forties and he didn't get his bike back as far as I know. The youngsters I gather steal the bikes, tear around the place on them with no lids, just masks or snoods, tearing up the pavements, going wrong way up one way streets and generally making an utter pain out of themselves and then, once they've had their fun they know they can't keep them and so, as far as they are concerned, the thing to do is to destroy it as a final 'screw you' to the owner as well as eliminating possible forensic evidence. Part of the motive for the destruction I don't doubt is the age old jealousy that someone else has worked hard and earned the cash to buy themselves a nice toy.

I get the feeling that part of their 'inspiration' is all those videos on Youtube of gangs of idiots in the USA tearing up the roads on Quads, Groms, and a host of other bikes with nothing legal about them who like to terrorise the public and taunt the police.

Those thieving pikey bastards south of the Thames!

Stayed with me mate in Dartford last night ahead of taking me mum out for lunch and getting new rubber put on the GS, and this morning we get up to discover someone had a go at the ignition and steering lock and tried to walk away the bike - brake lever lock saved it along with the timely arrival of a neighbour back home clocking them - a lovely 4' 22 Hindu lady who you wouldn't imagine confronting 3 young men in the dark!

Had to come back on train and will be going back next Satt o collect from me garage, who have got more work than planned!

TBH I was quite phlegmatic about it - not had a bike or car nicked before and it's bound to happen some time, but my mate was incensed, and pissed off at the way it makes Dartford look.

The knowledge that I'll never let him forget it and will use it as a source of humour forever was probably a factor - and justly so as I've already started a lively piss take on another forum we're on!

On the subject of bike thefts I noticed an article last night online that was saying that MAG have written to the Scottish Government to ask that something be done about thefts in Edinburgh as, apparently, European motorcycle clubs are now advising members to avoid going to Edinburgh while touring due to the risk of having your pride and joy stolen.
