War with China/Russia

Had a French Jaguar return to Dhahran in the first Gulf War similarly shredded. It came into land overhead sounding like a dustbin fight, not a jet. Another SAM7? The old Frogfoot SU25 is a poor man's Warthog and designed to take hits that would down something more delicate.

you may have heard this one @Sarky B’stard the jag was from my old unit
Oh we had quite a few jokes imagining completing the FMT-3 from both perspectives!

And the weakness of the weapon that hit it.
I think I joked before about missiles and hittiles. Most AA missiles are missiles, certainly the earlier types. They rely on getting 'close enough' before a proximity fuse detonates the warhead. But the warhead fragments radiate in every direction so even a close pass will collect less than 25% of the fragments. The hope is that will do enough for aerodynamic forces to then rip the aircraft apart but the slower it's flying.....

By the time you take a man portable weapon and apportion weight to all the essential components from motor, fuel, guidance etc., you end up with quite small warheads. A 10kg missile has a 1kg warhead that's about 370g of explosive - about 2 hand grenades.

Early Javelin AA missiles (not the Atk variety) were 100% hittiles with solid warheads to smash through an airframe. Later versions had explosives in case of a near miss but Starstreak darts are likewise predominantly hittiles with secondary delay warheads detonating inside the target once struck.

So ground attack is still conducted at quite low speeds to retain accuracy. It makes the aircraft easier to hit but the aerodynamic forces are appreciably reduced. The Malaysian airliner was hit at altitude at much higher speed by a very much more powerful missile.

They should take a leaf out of the British army book.
@Sarky B’stard would have been 50 miles from the front. Directing operations from a comfy leather swivel chair. With his feet in one of those huge mono-slippers. Whilst sipping Pimm's that his batman had prepared 😉

🙄

You should be a politicIan, journalist or captain of industry, OK, NHS manager. They all talk about Front Lines/the Front without noticing they pretty much disappeared with the arrival of aircraft circa 1917. Getting soldiers to do things they really don't want to is always expensive in officers. Sailors of all ranks go down together. I'll let Don explain the importance of crispy sheets to the war effort.

The buzzword these days is 'discontiguous'. You want to learn it. They don't like it behind them.

Don't overdo the mint and an extra squeeze of lime. Ta!

Typical BBC, they had to mention the "far right" Azov battalion. They are patriots. defending their country from an invading force ffs.

Open season on officers "good" great sniper practice. as @Sarky B’stard stated the front line disappeared in1917 when you could take the fight to any position from the air

The BBC love to use the term "far right"
You need to read between the lines Mick.
Whenever I hear/read that phrase on the BBC or in the Guardian etc.
It makes me chuckle. Cos what they are actually saying is..."Dangerous people with minds of their own. People we are unable to brainwash into believing our race baiting bullshit"...

They love to make out that they think we are nothing more that shit on their shoes. But the reality is, they are terrified of us. And I don't mean physically. They are terrified of our strength of character 😉

Oh..... her? She's a bit of a lefty Kremlin apologist who styles herself an 'expert' but doesn't live there......

This was her in Dec:

I don't accept we are getting 'the truth' but I wouldn't regard Dejevsky as being a reliable or insightful commentator. Source protection often comes down to pleasing & telling people what they want to hear; It even seems to have bedevilled the very advice Putin was getting.

Give me a crayon and watch me colour the map. Meaningless. Not much linear in this fight.

She's torn apart in this week's Private Eye as on Putin's payroll.

Just thought I'd share this article with y'all. It's a brief look at the artwork of Valeriy Grygorenko who was killed by the Russians recently in Ukraine.

Ukraine is quite well known in the model making world being home to several companies making model kits and model accessories.

In this case,I believe it’s ok to call them far right as the Asov battalion is neo nazi .
Having said that, they appear to be a thorn in the Russian side and have been very effective with their pr and video making and destroying tanks .
I would think that maybe Zelensky will have a word in their ear sometime soon,if not already.

There are definitely two sides to this conflict and as usual we are being fed one side by our brilliant MSM. They have taken RT off air which generally provided balanced reporting. I still have their app for now.

I certainly don't agree with taking RT off air - better to have the free debate of ideas, that is what we are supposed to represent after all.

But I would never describe RT as 'balanced reporting' 😂😂😂

English language Al-Jazeera is much closer to being 'balanced'.

Never watched RT and one of the reasons was because they employed that wee toad Alex Salmond.

I get the distinct feeling that the UK is quietly getting ready for the possibility that we may go to war with Russia. Local skinny is that HMS QEII, while supposedly on a 'routine logistics' visit took on a full load of armaments from DM Glen Douglas. Me and the missus were out for a wee drive on Friday as she was leaving and there were MOD police crawling all over the local area. Last time she visited there was only a small Police presence. Today there is a report that a nuclear missile convoy has come up to Coulport so I presume they will be loading a few subs shortly.

This is perfectly normal activity in abnormal times. You would expect a carrier to be fully bombed and fuelled unless she was going into refit - it's part of being 'at readiness'. She will have turned over missile stocks because these are serviced items containing batteries etc.
As for the 'other stuff' ditto. It's entirely normal (I am familiar with the cycle) but the media will sensationalise anything. 'Send 3s 4d we're going to a dance' 🙄

Neither was Lord Haw Haw but we never jammed German radio - they were laughed at for the most part. If your government doesn't trust the public, the public should not trust the government.
