What’s made you happy for a change

I buy kerosene for about 40p a litre or £1.52 per US gallon. Not bad for a 95% solution!
Next you'll be using old chip fat instead of diesel! 🥴

My solution (so far) to short journeys in diesel vehicles works a treat. I'll let you know if that changes. My little honorable Yoda of the tight wads 😉
Is there a kinda Olympic games for saving money in Jockistan? If so, you should definitely enter. The weight of platinum medals could play havoc with your back though 😳

I'm a self confessed tight wad. But I'm constantly humbled in your presence 😔 😉

I quite miss not having an older car in the garage to keep me grimy.
Something I thought I'd never agree with Sarky. Especially in years gone by. But now I do mate! 🙂

Kit car/toy car fixing was mostly fun. But fixing cars that need to work every day. Lost its appeal many years ago! 🥴
Hopefully the Focus will do its job 99% of the time.
But if not, Mrs DD has short term alternatives 🙂

I never look at my car and don't care to, it will go for it's annual service at the dealers and they can take care of anything that needs done. I have no interest in it whatsoever, haven't even checked the oil or water levels since we bought the thing but I spend as much if not more time farting about with the guts of my bikes than I do riding them.

Is it a motability car for Mrs Marty?
That would make a tiny difference to me Marty but not much mate.

I had company cars for several years before bailing out, & Mrs DD currently still has one.
Unlike most company car users. I've always treated them like they were my own. They get warmed up before being driven & the oil, water & tyre pressures etc are checked regularly.
Maybe that makes me Mr Sad? But I see no reason not to do those checks.
When all said & done. If I abuse said vehicle & it breaks. Somebody else picks up the bill to fix it.
But I'll still be stuck at the side of the road. When I could be at home sipping a Bushmills 😋

Having said that.
I've often been asked what is fastest car is I've ever driven?
Invariably, it was a company car. They seem to go from 0-60mph faster than most, especially in 2nd gear 🙂

In fact, manufacturers should stop using pro test drivers to get their best 0-60mph time. And employ a.n.other company car driver 🤗

This.

When I worked for GM's IT provider many years ago I had a mk1 Vectra 2.0 16v as a company car. One of the longer serving members of the team claimed they would do 100mph in second. Challenge accepted. Don't ask me how I verified it (officer) but you can just make an indicated ton as you hit the rev limiter.

This is the same car I got air under on a hump-backed bridge after which the front suspension squeaked until I handed it back a few months later to the poor sod who had to drive it back to Luton...

Similarly, I've found hire cars make the best off roaders.

Took a Ford Fiesta beyond where they were taking tourists 'up country' in 4x4s on dry road/tracks in Brazil once ;)

Meeting up with a few of the forum members in the aptly named town of Gailey!
Myself, Duck, DD67, Scrappy and Don the Don stayed overnight, and Tallpaul and Doc Strange came down for the afternoon.
A fair amount of bollocks was talked, and a large amount of food consumed.
Hopefully Duck will get on here later and inform you all of his unusual bed companion!
Many thanks to all who made it, we all had a right good laugh, and particular thanks to Don for his generosity at dinner last night.
Hope everyone had a safe journey home. 20210713_130637.jpg

Great company, good beer, delicious food & the best laugh I've had in ages. We definitely need to do it again soon lads 🙂

Many thanks to @Don the Don for treating us to dinner. Maybe @Scrappy managed to snap a photo of @BAD LUCK DUCK's sleeping companion? 🧐 😎 😉

On the 160 mile journey home the car wouldn't return any more than 49mpg at 60mph/70mph.
Since the Lucas fuel treatment has had a chance to work its "snake oil" magic (& that absolutely ditched air filter has been replaced) I can easily get 52mpg around town.
I predict 60+mpg tomorrow on our little run up the A5.
Plus a sparkly "ish" DPF eventually 🙂
My prediction of 60+mpg after a service & a chance for the Lucas stuff to work its magic, was accurate...20210714_124653.jpg
Not a drop of oil or coolant was used & the 130 mile round trip was done on A roads not a motorway. I'm taking that as a win 🙂
It's now nearly time to hand the car over to my tame racing driver. I expect the mpg to drop into the low 40's! 😳
