Absolutely! - There should be no tuition fees for college/university, but the price ought to be 4 years national service beforehand. I believe it would work wonders for society, the country, and the little shits who might actually learn something about real life and gain real experiences which would then help educate them and improve their life decisions.

In my opinion the Blair governments plan to make most people take a university education was specific plan to indoctrinate and brainwash the young and susceptible, as education establishments had for a long time been taken over by the left. It was an attempt to ensure ongoing political bias, and to build a foundation of power, it had nothing to do with education standards or increasing opportunities, what good is a media studies degree and a shit load of debt?
This I believe this is why the left are also against grammar schools, because they did work and opportunity was based on merit, turning lots of previously poor potential Labour voters into successes and Conservatives.

Then change the recruitment practices of public institutions like the police, NHS, BBC, etc to require only graduates (i.e. university brainwashed sheep) and the left takes over those institutions. Add in Common Purpose training and you can top up the brainwashing in the workplace, but mainly to ensure all these institutions comform to the same agenda.

I may not have articulated this very well, and some of you may think it is a "conspiracy theory", but I believe there is a lot of evidence to suggest that this is exactly what has happened, and that it was by design 🤔

Only the eldest went to Uni (read English, not a shithouse subject) but based on her experience the younger two didn't. Actually, not strictly true. Youngest made a def choice, The Prodigal had a place to read History but embarked on a ten year 'gap year' instead. :D

Putting them in the forces is no answer would you want one of those divs covering your back in a fire fight not me. I worked for 30 odd years in public institution the only qualifications you needed was count, read, write drink and fight. Simples no university just common sense and a sense of right from wrong.

I have to disagree @Scrappy I personally believe that, for years the cry was 'rising unemployment' while the Conservatives were in power and unemployment figures were one of the main tools to gain support for the Labour party. What is never made clear is that People on Benefits, in the absence of full employment are just as useful to the economy. You may dish out cash from the tax pot to them but every penny of it goes to supermarkets, energy companies and everything else which pays the wages and keeps the country ticking. The least valuable money in the economy is that which is locked up in the pockets of the wealthy and isn't doing anything and that makes up the lion's share of the countries wealth. When Labour got in on a ticket of 'turning things around' for the poor they knew that they couldn't actually provide full employment so what they could do was make it that sixteen to eighteen year old's would no longer be able to sign on as unemployed and would have to either stay in school, go to college/university or be supported by their parent's. Now we have a lucrative College and University education racket who absorb the tax payers money that would have once gone on benefits, a whole chunk of sixteen to eighteen year old's are no longer fed into the unemployment figures, and, if they are then forced into four years or at least a couple of years in college or university you even remove extra 18 to 20 year olds from the unemployment figures and you make it look to the rest of the world as if your country is focused on educating it's young. It's all smoke and mirrors.

I think that you credit the Labour party and the left wing with far more intelligence and cunning than they actually possess @Scrappy
If they were that bright they wouldn't have that dick Starmer or that nutjob Abbot or the rest of them still in their front ranks. They are so out of touch with reality that, even with the juvenile idiots in the Universities and Colleges on their side it has been demonstrated that they are still unelectable.

I don’t expect my politicians to be ‘good people’ but I will exchange some foibles for basic administrative competence and a sense of the national interest. Johnson is a shyster. Benefits Street with a posh voice and the habits of a tomcat but without quite the fight; he has henchmen for that.

I know we moan but of all the Governments in my lifetime Al Johnson probably the worst PM. At least Anthony Eden could claim to be a drug addict. Bliar, well his constitutional tinkering has left problems everywhere and he has much blood on his lying hands but Johnson could yet eclipse him as the dust settles on this scamdemic. Johnson has been a tool in every sense and couldn’t lead us out of a paper bag.
