What's Boiling Your Pi$$ Today?

The bike isn't charging. Was over to the youngest's early to help knock down a wall between kitchen and lounge. Stopped halfway to assess a 'road closed' sign on the way to see if it was *really* closed and the bike wouldn't start. Managed to bump it and got 5 mile from home before it died.
Yanked the batt out and took it home to charge, got the thing back now but there's no alternator output going to the battery.

I'll be starting a 'Tech' thread shortly

Ah the dreaded Alternator/Regulator rectifier. Is there a bike model that doesn't have a problem with them? Suzuki's used to be bleedin' awful for it and the solution was to fit a new alternator stator and a Honda Superdream Reg/Rec. One of my Bonnie's had a new reg/rec and battery fitted before I bought it because it had gone duff and my Daytona has had hers replaced at some point. It's not as if these are high mileage beaters either!

I don't know if it's the same for the Speed Triple @chas but someone wrote on the Daytona Facebook page that the dealers he bought from replaced his reg/rec with one meant for a 675 and the mechanic supposedly said that was the recommended cure. One thing to note too is that the 'word on the street' is that if your reg/rec and/or alternator stator have gone duff it's probably because your battery is on it's last legs. I think the battery is on it's way out on my Daytona and I think I will be bunging in a new one rather than risking a 'fry-up' in the electrics.

My wifes car, new in 2017 Nissan juke 12dig with 11 thousand mile on the clock given a full service every year, even year though milage wise it's only just due it's first service. and the piece of SH*T has just had it's third new front camshaft senser ( yeah theres 1 on the back cam too) fitted by my son lucky it's his trade and he's agood mechanic. £45 a time for the senser. Dread to think what the stealeraship would charge, but the senser alone is £79 plus VAT from them the charge for hooking to computer and then there hourly rate for the mechanic. Wouldn't touch a NISSAN with a disinfected barge pole. Feel better now I've got that off my chest.

All Nissan Diesel engines where built by Renault petrol engines where Nissan
And even the little 1000cc petrols had timing chains not belts.
Making petrol Nissans virtually maintenance free apart from oil/filter changes. Hence their popularity with taxi drivers.
My Mum has had nothing but petrol Nissans for 20yrs+. Apart from that recent issue with the tailgate wiring. They have been totally bomb proof 🙂

Not exactly boiling my piss, but a cause of concern I'd like to have righted.

Tagged on the back of a group of 6 rider today on a bit of my ride.

They weren't riding like twats, but they had left the weakest rider at the back, who was struggling a bit to keep up.

Didn't get the chance, but I'd like to have said to them them that that ain't the way to do it!

Insurance companies……..again

Just gone through the nausea of renewal of my car insurance again. Renewal came through at £377 for the Jaaaggg so I got an online quote on the same insurers website - £426.
Then a Moneysupermarket quote - £324 was the cheapest with the extras I wanted. No changes to the policy from last year.
Yep, you’ve guessed it, all 3 prices from the same f@#king insurer, Hastings Direct.
So I’ve just had to spend 45 minutes on the phone to them to get them to honour the price from the comparison site.
Cnuts the lot of em!

Had the same experience with the same firm but played it differently. I just rang up to cancel. Pressed all the buttons in the appropriate sequence. I get through to a switchboard where the accent makes my ears prick up……South Africa. Lovely helpful lady….

May I ask why you are cancelling?
Certainly. I can get it cheaper.
Can we match the offer you have found?
You can try.
OK, who is it with?
You, do you want the quote reference?
Yes please…..

Net result: cheaper than last year.

Yep, pretty much what I ended up doing though I didn’t say I was cancelling, just said I could get it cheaper than the renewal price.
Really shouldn’t have to go through this crap every time though.

Well relying on individual indolence is easy money. Any idea of loyalty in either direction is long gone. It’s highly price competitive to get the mostly safe punter and non switchers are quietly fleeced.
Let’s just hope the new rules coming in next year will help redress some of this bollocks, though it’ll more likely just mean premiums will increase.
