A bit like something between a pear and an apple with a slight hint of rose in the flavour.

Can poach them, add to desserts like a crumble, or preserve - in jelly, which can go on toast or with cheese, or in alcohol, like described above.

Bit of a faff as don't ripen on the tree in our climate so need storing for a few weeks before using, but an interesting taste and a traditional fruit that I'm happy to grow and help preserve.

First had one about 20 years ago because someone had a tree in their garden, so decided to plant our own tree at some point - did that 8 years back and are now in 3rd year of cropping.

Had our consultation documents given out today from our new owners......been offered redundancy or a 1 to 1 consultation to discuss options, requested a 1 to 1 for next week......that should give me enough time to dig the 2 shallow graves required for the bastards...Been cunts of the highest order, so far we have had 10 staff leave (all with around 20yrs of service) and another 5 or 6 are ready to go.

I have grown to hate the place Don, I only have 3 months to retirement but they have been utter bastards to the staff,I am now looking forward to my 1 to 1 meeting and will see what I can squeeze out of them..the redundancy won't be worth a lot as I've only been there about 7 or 8 years (will have to check) but I'm hoping they offer a reduced hours contract as I was originally (before the sale) going to work on at 20hrs a week, at least that will keep the wolf from the door temporarily.

A cynic (who me?) might say redundancy might fund the hire of an excavator for deepening those graves.

I had 'had enough' when I came to retire of self serving a*** lickers. I went months early and saved myself much heartache. I recommend self surgery!

Statutory reduncy should be 7 or 8 weeks pay. That equates close to 2 months money. I'd take the dosh and go early. No more work at all. FUCK EM!

Plus I've still got 3 and a half weeks holiday to take before the end of December, and I think there was something about pay in lieu of notice....they must want me gone ...which makes me want to stay and fuck them over as much as I can

Even better then mate. 7 - 8weeks stat redundancy, plus 3.5 weeks holiday.
Pretty much what you would have got if you worked until retirement day. FUCK EM. Take the dosh and go. Enjoy a 3 month early retirement.
I packed up 7 years early. I can thoroughly recommend it
