BAD LUCK DUCK

Forum Duck
Talking of your recently discovered favourite tipple. I've been meaning to show you this.
It's a bit of a gimmick & not exactly cheap. But it is pretty cool & definitely unique 🙂
Perhaps you could justify one to celebrate the divorce?
£76😱😱😱😱😱
I almost converted to Judaism 😳🤣🤣🤣🦆

Thanks, thought it mighta bin summat like that. Thought you were supposed to sup whiskey with water?
An average sized ice cube in a pub, melted into a standard single pub measure of spirit is way too much dilution IMHO.
But the same sized ice cube in 3 or 4 standard pub measures is spot on for me.

Having said that, there are no rules around spirit drinking. Everyone should drink their favourite mixed with whatever they like 🙂

Speaking as a Scotsman of Islay heritage it's only supposed 'hard men' who drink whisky neat and think it's the done thing. Real connoisseurs add a little water to the drink. Ice however is an absolute no-no as cooling the drink actually dulls the taste. I have recently gotten in touch with a number of long lost second and third cousins still living in Islay and working for the distilleries. The one's who are still alive are largely alcoholics who have given the stuff up and the rest are dead from alcoholism.

Pardon my ignorance, as I'm not a whiskey drinker, but what are whiskey stones?
So individuals like to drink whiskey at a cooler temperature and these are frozen first and added to have that effect with diluting the drink and ruining the flavour.

Perhaps you cool‘em down and use them instead of ice cubes and therefore do not dilute the whiskey?
My guess…
correct, usually for irish or american whiskeys.

You tend to add water to scotch whisky, particularly those distilled by the sea to enhance the flavour.

The new Duck in my life bought me a bottle of jamesons crested which I was introduced to by our very own @DD67 and is now my favourite whiskey and it resides in a very nice decanter provided by our very own @Doc Strange ( cheers DD and Doc )...
She also bought me some very cool looking whiskey stones in the shape of something very cool and dear to me...
I've never used them before..Any opinions or can anyone get me some real ammo and the means to use it...
Either way I'm happy...🦆
Lipstick? How gay!

The common misapprehension though is that your regular bottle hasn’t already been watered…. Only cask strength whiskies are ‘as from the barrel’. I think adding water to most just adulterates it too much - but then I don’t drink that much or that often.

I also take your point about ice. But then David Beckham is probably a lager drinker and that needs the taste killing! It’s not that pleasant at room temperature.

Well the word Quaich is the Scots version of the Gaelic word Cuach which is simply the word for a cup. It makes sense that if you could only afford one cup then having one with two handles on it would make it easier to pass around. I don't know about it as a 'tradition' as I have rarely seen anyone actually using a Quaich except on telly or at something like a wedding. Sort of Scottish Kitsch and souvenir I think.

I thought it was derived from the word Sasquatch.
Meaning large hairy ape like creature given to running around naked in remote areas.
That all sounds very Scottish to me Marty 😉

Well decent whisky with minimal water content is pretty antiseptic! I was given one that holds a bottle!

Meanwhile if you take the minor road North out of Crieff up the Sma’ Glen (or hang a left from Dunkeld up to Amulree) you arrive in Glen Quaich. It’s the exact same shape as the drinking vessel with a shallow loch in the bowl. If you follow the road North it’s a beautiful and little use run over to Loch Tay and Kenmure. Very few tourists to despoil it!
