To give it some perspective, I found the following quote:

"The report estimated that Gates' private jet travel, which he has described as his “guilty pleasure”, emitted about 1,600 tonnes of carbon dioxide. That compares to a global average of less than five tonnes per person. The environmental cost of private jets isn't a fun read."

I also found a CO2 calculator, and for a large capacity motorcycle covering 3000 miles a year for 30 years (not been riding continually for that long), totalling 90,000 miles the CO2 output was calculated at 19.18 tonnes.

Bill Gates in his private jet = 1,600 tonnes of CO2 - Me on my bike = 19 tonnes 😲
I've just prepared my pitchfork!

Shops that are still using covid as an excuse for not opening properly. I've been using a local garden machinery place for years who do a lot of trade with the forestry types and have good quality kit that lasts me years. Roll up on Saturday to drop £400 or so on a couple of new toys only to find a note on the gate saying not open Saturdays for now due to covid. Utter crap. If they can open five days a week they can still do Saturday morning for those of us who have jobs. Half the site is outdoors and their showroom is huge - no distancing issues at all.

Drop them an email and get a response saying please use the Web sales service. Fine. That means I'm now comparing you to everyone else on the Web, and you're NOT the cheapest. I sent back the alternative quotes telling them so, that I tried to support a local company as a good, local returning customer but if they want to be like that then price match or I go somewhere else. The place used to be so busy on Saturdays and they'd always do a deal on multiple purchases but if they want to play with the discounters good luck.

My son is home isolating because someone in his class has reported having covid. No evidence provided, but now my son, who incidentally tested negative last night, same as my wife & I, has to spend his last 10 days in year 8 at home. Utter fucking bollocks.

This is all to push them having the injection, end of.

One of my kids has exactly the same, although her sister who goes to the same school IS going to school:unsure:
Seems a bit odd to me

Isn't it fookin annoying when you think you're getting on top of things, and you go and find something else.

Bike is running nicely, so sorted there.* Welded the chassis outrigger on the T4. Changed the oils on the Land Rover... Spotted a dribble of antifreeze.... Radiator core has started to rot, the fins are disintegrating. Fork me, its only been on there since 2009! It was £84 then, now the same thing is £120! Unless you go for an aluminium rad, they're £180..different manufacturer though, their equivalent copper one is over £300!

Has the price of copper gone up or something?

*Had a nice test run the other day, only about 20 miles, but it was gooooooood.

That suck's have you been told that you will definitely lose it? Do you mean you actually want a bike to own but not ride to start a new NCD? Is that worth it? If so why not see if you can find a 'project' to work on and you might fall in love with it at the same time.

Renewal is the 25th, at the moment it's down as an open case I.e at fault. I can either go with the insurance (2020 triple RS) TPFT £250 and be super careful, or I can go FC £800 and, when it's all sorted, assuming I walk away with zero blame, get refunded the three years NCD and the difference in the policy price.

£100 x 2 to tax the two bikes.

Cos I often ride both at the same time like.

DS
Now this may come as a surprise to you but you are officially a ‘Rich Bastard’ so you can afford it. It’s the same principle as the little old lady hanging onto the dilapidated family home paying top whack Council Tax for the modest amount she flushes down the loo or puts in the bin because the police did nothing about her burglary and she hasn’t managed to set the place on fire yet…..Meanwhile the dozen wage earners in the flat across the road are quids in.

I certainly don't deny that I am extremely lucky to have such a fine pair of bikes: 08 GS, 01 DSSA Daytona :)

But I think vehicle tax should be rolled in with fuel.

Simpler to collect and stops foreign lorries avoiding UK taxes.

DS
I completely agree and think of the snivel servants saved. We have over complicated swathes of revenue rules & collection. Creates loopholes for accountants. Sensible tax rates get honoured not evaded and reward rather than penalise enterprise. It incentivises owning fuel efficient vehicles and using guzzlers sparingly. 🤯

I agree with a fairer system, the more you use the vehicle, the more you pay. Fuel is the easiest way to apply that... It would maybe encourage the creation of vehicles doing more mpg.

But most likely it would be a way for them to put the price of fuel up to a place where you simply can't afford to use it.

And for people living in a rural location it kind of penalises them, for example, if I want to visit a supermarket I have a 74 mile round trip, hospital the same, main hospital is a 200 mile round trip. I'm not complaining, I choose to live here, and it's one reason we do online shopping. But you see what I'm saying.

Taxation is a joke. What really grinds my gears is fuel, again, its taxed several times.. You pay tax on tax! That wants addressing before they add yet another tax to it.

In short, I agree with the idea, but let's have everything taxed the same. Be it a bike or a jumbo jet.

I'd get some advice mate. Insurance companies used to fight your corner to a degree if you were their insured. We've had the work van tailgated by an uninsured driver and despite some DAS protection they're just not persuing it. Because they phoned the guy a couple of times and they put the phone down Daughters car got hit (whilst parked) by a contractors lorry and the insurance company put no effort into applying any pressure at all.
If it needs any fighting, be prepared to do it off your own back.
