You know @Big Sandy I seem to recall there being a special fuel subsidy for petrol for the Scottish Islands and talk of it being extended to cover rural areas of mainland Scotland in order to help people be able to continue to live in these rural areas. Seems that the idea has been quietly dropped as the Snazi's have probably squirreled away the funds meant for it along with all those donations that seem to have disappeared.

I'd get some advice mate. Insurance companies used to fight your corner to a degree if you were their insured. We've had the work van tailgated by an uninsured driver and despite some DAS protection they're just not persuing it. Because they phoned the guy a couple of times and they put the phone down Daughters car got hit (whilst parked) by a contractors lorry and the insurance company put no effort into applying any pressure at all.
If it needs any fighting, be prepared to do it off your own back.
Justice is not their business, profit is. It’s cheaper to settle knock for knock with the other insurers than fight 50/50 battles. The customer pays for cheaper, competitive pricing with diddly squat service but a piece of paper that says you are legally insured.

That’s even more strange  Do you get any benefits in kind for personal use? Mobile phone, Private health care, Gym Membership, use of a bus at weekends, knobbing the ticket collector?

I know salary/payroll is very personal but if it helps I’m more than happy to have a look for you?
I'm just sticking to 57 - 58hrs from now on so I know exactly where I am with it...

I just learned that the wife is pleading poverty..cos we are now split pending divorce can she get an attachment of earnings thing on my wages and claim money off me...

Quite possibly however I would expect she would need a court order for it to be applied to your salary

I am on a very sticky legal wicket if I deduct anything from anyone’s salary without their express permission (except tax :cautious: )

However this is moving way outside my sphere of expertise - see if you can have a chat with a friendly lawyer(y)

I heard about that.... Seems to work in reverse though. Main filling station at a big tesco is 3p a litre cheaper than my 'local', and 6p a litre cheaper than the nearest on the A9 "last fuel for 50 miles". Whichever direction I head in, nearest fuel is a 74 mile round trip.

There was a filling station in Helmsdale, which has been shut for 18 years. That was still a 40 mile round trip, but was dearer, so swings and roundabouts. (I used to go there with a trailer full of jerricans to fill the boats and Argo's with. A rolling bomb, as I used to usually have a couple of big lpg bottles on the trailer too....) There was talk of that opening for subsidised fuel for locals (you had a discount card, but you put the money on the card instead of using it like a fuel card to get a discount) but it never got off the ground. Garage is still there, but falling down now.

There used to be a lot more petrol stations around here but now the closest is in Arrochar (about ten miles away) and it's an unmanned place. There used to be one in the village many moons ago. Whenever I go out in the car I take a couple of Jerry cans to fill up which I use for the bikes. It is a pisser that you have to make sure you have at least a couple of gallons in the tank or you won't even make it out of the village and it costs heading for a gallon of fuel to go and get more.

Not like that…..

She can apply to a court for interim maintenance before the divorce goes through. If successful you are then liable to pay. Nothing to stop you making voluntary payments but what she gets is also a function of her earnings, length of marriage and a bit of a specialist area….. You could seek money from her if she earns more.

An attachment of earnings order only arises as part of enforcement proceedings if you prove to be an unreliable payer and maybe owe back money as well. It’s the last stage, not the first.

You might see who offers free or cut price initial legal advice just to give you an idea of the likely long term position. It can be as bad to be stupidly generous as unnecessarily spiteful. You want to know what’s ‘in the ballpark’ for your situation.

On a similar subject...
We had a conversation on Tuesday night about compensation claims after accidents. And how any money paid out by the DWP between the accident & a settlement. Invariably has to be repayed to the DWP. The idea being that if the compensation payment included money for loss of earnings between the accident & the compensation payout. If the DWP didn't ask for their money back. Effectively you'd be being paid twice.
I was struggling to think of the term for it. The best I could come up with was "betterment" but I figured you'd know if that was the correct legal term?

Betterment sounds about right but normally in compensation cases where the aim is to put you in the same situation you would have been but for the loss. Damages are split between general and special/unliquidated & liquidated (pain & suffering v. things you can put a specific price on) You can’t replace flea bay tat with Dainese. That’s betterment!

Failing to repay DWP following a successful claim? I would call that fraud.

We were more remote than we are now, and had a petrol S3... We had to carry a can of fuel so we could get back to the filling station after getting home from filling up! Actually, it wasn't quite that desperate, but the worry was there. We sold that, and just kept the diesel one. 🤣

So these proposed systems will also be data gathering and feeding back to the EU (and I guess other governments), so apart from the obvious safety risks and annoyance of AI interferring with the driving of the vehicle, the fucking things will be spying on you. How long will it take for automatic fixed penalties, insurance cost or even eligibility being based on how slow you drive.

IMO this is nothing to with safety, but is all about control and the start of determining how, when and where you can travel 🤬

If you are worried about control how about leccy cars and power cuts? You can’t store a can in the shed.
