That perceived backlash seems to be feared by many folk HS.Problem is that there isn’t the political will, the government are running scared of the potential illiberal backlash.
You're lucky Duck,Last year we had no pay rise and no Christmas piss up......I think it will be the same this year as we are running at a loss and up for sale.Company I work for his about to offer us a 40 pence a hour pay rise for next years pay negotiation...
At the moment they are losing drivers left right and centre from all depots..It's not just the bus Company I work for to be fair..
They can't seem to understand why they can't hold on to drivers and are struggling massively to keep services running with what staff they have..
40 pence is insulting for what we do and how things have changed and not for the better..
I'm currently on a break..I have to take my break on the bus at a bus stop with people constantly knocking on the windows asking stupid questions..Got no basic amenities such as toilet, hot water for hygiene, no canteen facilities and nowhere to keep warm...
The job is utter shite and like so many others I'm looking at jumping ship...
They've been very quiet since a few got locked up.Then you have those utter assholes that call themselves 'Insulate Britain' who are determined that, whether the public in general agree or not, they are right and they will have their way. At one time the law would simply have gone in, cracked skulls, and ended their 'protest' where now the cops nancy around at the edges and try and stop frustrated members of the public from dealing with the protestors.
I agree they can't pay what the business isn't earning...I would hate to be running a bus company right now with an impossible equation of running sufficient services on the right routes to generate the revenue essential to maintain the fleet and retain staff. They can’t pay what the business isn’t earning. Equally, without putting the wind up people, they should explain why their offer is the best they can afford. All too often the problem is communication and excessive secrecy.
If you are hoping for better working conditions I think HGV driving will leave you more that a little let down mate, this country really doesn't cater for HGV's, limited parking areas & poor facilities are order of the day mate.I agree they can't pay what the business isn't earning...
However they could treat drivers equally and offer all drivers and not a select few better break facilities...For example a certain rota gets paid an extra quid per hour as a fully equipped canteen with facilities to store and cook your own food ( basically a fully functional large kitchen and dining area with central heating television radio ) and not too mention the kitchen as just been fully modernised although nothing was wrong with the previous one and these select drivers were paid for the inconvenience to take breaks in their own vehicles but still had full access to toilet facilities and many other benefits...
Whilst they enjoy all that the rest of us have to take our breaks on our bus like me right now with no access to f#ck all..
Then you've got constantly changing shift patterns longer shifts than ever with stupid starting and finish times absolutely no family time or social life and to continuance of piling on more responsibilities and more distance school work which is not what a single driver signed up for the vast majority of drivers have had it...
Another one handed is notice in earlier I've been told...
I'm currently stuck on a freezing cold bus for my break with no facilities whatsoever..
I've had enough and come the new year will see about my medical to do my HGV...
I fancy driving a dangerous chemical and explosives truck..
That's gotta be good money and I reckon I got the right temperament for such a job..
A mate of mine recently got a £9000pa pay riseOn the plus side money has gone up
Aye the old truck stop cafes appear to be disappearing from our roads, that and ladies of the night tapping on your drivers door maybe too much for you to cope with @BAD LUCK DUCK ..............so I am toldthis country really doesn't cater for HGV's, limited parking areas & poor facilities are order of the day mate.
I quite fancy the title ofNever mind doing your HGV Duck.
Go for your true calling in life. A career in politics beckons!
I'd do that...A mate of mine recently got a £9000pa pay rise
He moans about the job but it sounds ok to me.
He works nights & it's one long distance trip per shift. He rocks up at work picks up a loaded trailer off the loading bay. Drives for 3hrs or so. Backs onto another loading bay. Has a kip whilst he's unloaded. Then drives back to his starting point.
It sounds boring, but not difficult or stressful. And his wage is closer to £50k than £40k
When I was running my own firm I had a contract with Sainsbury’s to supply weekend driver cover, I never booked myself on any shifts so I could cover anyone that went sick etc. But used to end up doing the odd shift as cover, loved it, pretty much as you described Jez, only it was 1 distance load or 3 local/ 1 local, 1 medium distance. All roll cages, unload yourself then load empties, kept you reasonably fit if you did it all the time I reckon.A mate of mine recently got a £9000pa pay rise

But I don't understand why that is?
At the moment the lefties wave their arms about & stamp their feet in outrage. Until they get their own way.
But what could they do if they were simply ignored or better still, told to shut up?
They could do some more arm waving/foot stamping I suppose. Possibly throw in a few accusations of fascism as well. But what could they actually do to reverse whatever it was that they didn't like? My guess is that if they had to man-up. They'd back down so fast. The sudden change in altitude would give them nose bleeds!
Last I heard my mate worked for a group that own dozens of different clothing/footware outlets. This country is influenced and ruled by minority prejudice, nothing else matters. That perceived backlash seems to be feared by many folk HS.
